April 2020
6 Buckden Roundabout April 2020 Village Notices FRIENDS IN DEED Friends in Deed is a voluntary group offering support to Buckden residents. On Wednesday 4 th March we enjoyed our Winter Tea Party in the Methodist Hall. This event is not just for those who make use of Friends in Deed services, this event, like our Monthly Café, is open to all. Our youngest visitor was 5, while the total age - range of our guests was a remarkable 95 years! As usual, there was a wonderfully varied and bountiful supply of home bakes; ginger or fruit cake, Victoria or chocolate sponge; lemon or orange drizzle; madeira cake or cup cakes, cakes with nuts … almonds or pecan? And this is just a sample. We are fortunate to have a great team of cake bakers willing to donate their best bakes. Hot drinks were served direct to tables and we had brief moments to stand back and watch the business of the scene and smile at the engagement of all, whether in lively conversation, close listening or laughter! Our Community Cafe runs on the second Wednesday of each month, in the Living Stones Room at St Mary ’ s Church, Buck- den. Our next café event is April 8 th . Drop - by at any time be- tween 2.30 and 4pm for a hot drink and perhaps enjoy some cake too? Are you free at that time? Have you ever consid- ered dropping by? You will be most welcome! We do not charge but we do ask for a donation, with a guideline of £2 for a hot drink and cake. The donations enable us to contribute directly to the cost of using the facilities and the utilities.
