Welcome The Parish Council would like to welcome all those who have recently moved into the village. To help you settle into village life the Parish Council has produced a welcome pack this is available on our website. Neighbourhood Plan The referendum to seek your formal approval to the plan will be held on 6 th May. See more information on page 11. Reporting Issues in the Village Please continue to report any issues you see in the village e.g., flooding, potholes etc. There is information on our web site about how to report. BPC also report issues but it is clear that the best way to get action is to ‘ make a nuisance of ourselves ’ by sending in numerous reports. Flooding We are still awaiting any evidence of action in relation to flooding from the County Council or HDC. A major issue is the ‘ ownership ’ of the Taylors Lane culvert which is currently be- ing disputed despite a local resident being advised HDC ‘ own the waterway ’. We will continue to chase a solution. We have also continued to raise the issue of the surface water drainage/carriageway ponding at Manor Gardens. Telephone Box renewal With the help of the Lorrigan family the Telephone Box, is now a book swap and information point. The Parish Council thanks them for their hard work in getting this done. Ruby and Martha the two Lorrigan girls will be monitoring the use of the box and tidying it on a weekly basis as part of their bronze Duke of Edinburgh award. Thank you To all those who have been litter picking around the village. It is great to see so many people contributing to keeping the village clean and tidy. The Handymen do litter pick on a week- ly basis but sadly those dropping litter do so on a daily basis. Thank you to all who are helping keep the village looking so good. Silver Street Development/Buckden Roundabout The County Council and Highways England have removed their objections to the Roundabout proposals. We have con- tacted our MP, Jonathan Djanogly, and Jon Neish, the HDC Councillor with responsibility for Planning to express our con- cerns about, the safety of the round- about, the impact on local roads, services (School and GP surgery), and the sewage system. Lucks Lane Development There are ongoing concerns about the very high water level in the eastern attenuation pond on the site. Bloor Homes have been instructed to reduce this level and find an alternative long - term solution to the problem. At the time of writing this had not been done. We will continue to chase. Protect Buckden ’ s Future Group The Group have donated the residual funds, raised during their campaign, to the Parish Council to continue the effort to protect Buckden ’ s future. Thank you. Council Precept The total Precept (which is BPC ’ s share of Council Tax) for the period April 2021 to March 2022 will be £149,201. This is the main income we use to deliver Parish services to residents. The Buckden Parish Precept makes up about 5% of the total Council Tax collected. For a “ Band - D equivalent ” property this is £122.40 for the year, (i.e., £2.35 per week). This is 12p extra per week compared to the current year. Further details about the overall Council Tax will be circulated by HDC Resignation With regret we have accepted the resignation of Betty Millard from the Council. Betty was Parish Clerk from 1991 – 2000, Parish Chair for 3 years and most recently a Councillor. Thank you Betty, you will be missed!
