April 2021

6 Buckden Roundabout April 2021 Buckden Neighbourhood Watch The Coronavirus pandemic has led to residents changing where they work and more residents spending increasing amounts of time at home. The Police encourage you to report any concerns or suspicious behaviour in your community. Here are some examples of reports which have led to arrests: • A resident could hear a cutting noise outside his neigh- bour ’ s house. It was catalytic converter being stolen from their neighbour ’ s car. • Police were called by a resident after their neighbour knocked on the door and said they had seen three men climbing on the roof of the house - arrests were made for attempted burglary. • A member of the public called the police seeing a man riding one bike but pushing another along at the same time. After being stopped by the police, they found the man had a hammer, pliers and chisel along with a sto- len bike. Did the arrest stop other crimes being com- mitted? If you are working at home more or spending more time in- doors and you notice something in your community that does not feel right, please tell the police. It is important to mention any information reported could bring someone to justice. Some crimes have decreased due to lockdown but more seri- ous offences are still taking place including domestic abuse. Friends of Buckden Towers Despite the current restrictions, at FoBT we feel that we can begin to plan for the remainder of the year. For members, we have decided to postpone our AGM until the end of June when, we hope, Members will be able to come together. We are also planning to be able to allow any Members, who might still be reluctant to meet with others, to follow proceedings on Zoom. Other events open to all are: Heritage Day on Sunday, 12 th September 2021. Autumn Plant Sale on Saturday, 25 th September 2021 in the Towers grounds. Please keep an eye on the restoration work being carried out on the outer gatehouse. This should be finished by the end of March. At the Friends of Buckden Towers, we assist the owners in the upkeep of these unique buildings. You can join for a modest fee each year and be part of this valuable work.
