Anglo - Saxon finds display 30th April to 3rd May Some of the amazing finds from the archaeological dig that took place on the Lucks Lane development site will be on display in the Millard Suite from Saturday 30th April to Tues- day 3rd May. There will be refreshments and the oppor- tunity to ask questions and learn more about the dig – in- cluding several amazing Lego models showing how the buildings found on the site may have looked. For more in- formation please see the Buckden Local History Society arti- cle in this Roundabout. Falls Prevention Clinic Everyone Health used to run Falls Prevention Clinics at the Hall. Unfortunately, the company who run these clinics were not receiving enough referrals from the local surgery to keep the clinic going. However, I have received many calls from residents wanting to have this facility back. If these clinics can be of use for you, please can you speak to the surgery or contact https://healthyyou.org.uk/sign - up/, call 0333 005 0093 or email eh.healthyyou@nhs.net Queen ’ s Jubilee Weekend The Parish Council is coordinating a number of activities for the four - day Queen ’ s Jubilee holiday weekend. Please see announcements from Buckden Parish Council for details as plans develop. Buckden Village Hall may be hosting the lighting of the Jubilee beacon on the Thursday evening and further activities preceding the beacon lighting. An after- noon tea is also planned for the Saturday. More details will be published soon. The Valley The Valley suffered some minor damage during Storm Eunice in February. Several small trees were uprooted, and numerous branches came down. The cricket nets were bad- ly damaged, and the backstop net was pushed over by a falling tree. We are gradually clearing up the debris and will be organising a community tidy up in May in advance of the Jubilee weekend. Litter bins should be delivered sometime in March. We have applied for grant funding to landscape the eastern edge of the Valley from the zig - zag path down to the weir. Lauren Tyler of Tyler Goldfinch Gardens, our own local Buck- den garden designer (www.facebook.com/ Tylergoldfinchgardens) drew up some outline plans for this area to support our application to the National Garden Scheme. Cross fingers that our application is successful. Richard Salmon of Prolawn, is drawing up plans and costings to address additional work to the Valley, including improv- ing drainage of the playing fields and the seating area by the zig - zag path and managing ongoing maintenance. Our con- tractors, Ebsford Environment, made their quarterly inspec- tion in late February to check that the Valley is working to plan. They will be hydroseeding the coir mats on banks of the lake with wildflower pond mix in late March to ensure the plantings thrive this spring. Due to contract delays which were out of our control last year, the seeds under the coir mats were planted very late in the autumn season. The hydroseeding will support last year ’ s autumn planting. Litter around the building There has been an increase in the amount of litter being left along the side of the building between the Hall building and the tennis courts, near the entrance to preschool. There are plenty of bins within easy reach and also please remember that CCTV covers all the building so you can be seen sitting in the doorways! Hallmark award Three years ago, Buckden Village Hall received its Hallmark 1 award from ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural Eng- land), recognising us for consistently excellent management and administration of our facilities and assets. We are about to embark on renewal on our accreditation of Hall- mark 1. With Covid restrictions now easing, the Trustees will consider whether to commence on the full three stage accreditation: • Hallmark 1 - Focuses on the management and admin- istration of the hall. • Hallmark 2 - Health, safety, security & licensing • Hallmark 3 - Community and social awareness, with forward planning and communication being key. Hire rates Remember that Buckden residents receive very favourable rates for the Hall ’ s 3 rooms and main hall. Due to the sharp increase in utility rates, national insurance contributions and general expenditure, we have been forced to raise our charges, but we still offer very reasonable rates for a venue that is consistently rated 4.5/5 stars by our customers. Please contact me to discuss your needs for sport or busi- ness bookings, parties, funerals/memorial services or other events.
