6 Buckden Roundabout April 2022 Village News The Beautiful Bluebells of Brampton Wood The Huntingdonshire Local Group of the Wildlife Trust invites you to come and experience the sight and scent of a carpet of bluebells in this ancient woodland, which lies on our doorstep. You are welcome to share this enchanting scene by partici- pating in a guided walk on Sunday 1st May at 10.30 am. The Voluntary Wardens at Brampton Wood will lead us through this woodland, where a rich variety of flora can be seen. Their aim will be to highlight the beautiful scent, colour and freshness of the bluebells, which encapsulate the essence of a traditional English Spring. We also expect to see other woodland flora such as wood anemone, primrose and dogs mercury. In addition we should see butterflies such as brim- stone, speckled wood and orange tip and we will listen for the singing of the woodland birds. Everyone is most welcome to attend. Please meet in the Visi- tors Barn at Brampton Wood, Grafham Road, Brampton at 10.30 am. GR TL 184698. What3Words plates.plodding.photocopy. Park in the Trust car park. All necessary equipment will be provided, but we are happy if any child has their own bat to bring it along. To enrol your child for these sessions please just turn up on Thursday the 28 th of April, on the playing field. All they need to wear is clothing and trainers that allows them to “ run, jump, throw and swing a bat ”. Every village has its characters and Fred was one. Not only was he locally and nationally acclaimed as a maker and judge of homemade wine he was also involved in many other village activities. He was an active member of the Village Club committee dur- ing the busy years leading up to the rebuild of the Village Hall. As a valued member of the Parish Council for many years he chaired the allotment committee and as a member of the foot- paths and trees working group help to ensure that our foot- paths were kept clear and was responsible for planting many trees in the village. Meetings were often helped by a small measure of Fred ’ s latest vintage! He will be greatly missed. Thank you Fred. We extend our sincere condolences to Jean and her family. Jean Day and all the family would like to thank everyone who came to Fred ’ s send off on 7 th February. Thank you also for the charity donations of £120.00 that was collected in the church.
