12 Buckden Roundabout August 2021 Village News Volunteers needed Rainbows are the youngest section of Girl Guiding and, follow- ing the retirement of current Unit leader after 19 years, 1st Buckden Rainbows is now seeking a new team to run the unit for 5 to 7 year olds in the village. There is a healthy waiting list of girls keen to join, so plenty of interest but sadly without new volunteers the unit will close. Pre lockdown the unit met weekly on a Tuesday 4.30 to 5.30pm in term time but this could be revised to suit your own schedule or fit in with your own family commit- ments. By volunteering , you can help girls build their confidence, have adventures, learn new skills and have loads of fun – no matter your experience, your background or how much time you have spare. There is a structured support programme and training oppor- tunities for Leaders to enhance or learn new skills . If you can help or would like to know more please contact Ann Weitzel , District Commissioner via ann.weitzel@btconnect.com Or register your interest https://go.girlguiding.org.uk/join - us/join - as - volunteer/ Buckden Gardeners Association Members of Buckden Gardeners Associa- tion met together one Tuesday after- noon in June to visit Dave and Val Bun- nage ’ s most unusual and intriguing garden. From the road it looks no different to all the other gardens along Perry Road, but as soon as you enter into the back garden you are transported into a different world, a world of unusual miniature gar- dens all flanked by narrow gravel paths. The first thing you are greeted by is a couple of happy gar- deners taking it easy on a chair in front of the large greenhouse filled with enormous and unusual succulents. The two happy gardeners are life size models of Dave and Val as you won ’ t find them loung- ing around when there is work to be done in the gar- den. Some of the gardens are whimsical with colourful bugs and caterpillars artistically arranged amongst the unusu- al and rare plants while oth- ers are more formal with gravel paths and clipped hedging. Then there are the Japanese style gardens with acers and miniature replicas of some of the “ Terracotta Warriors ”. Our next group meeting will be a guided tour of the Knot Garden and Grounds at Buckden Towers at 2pm on Tuesday 31 st August. Meet at 1:50pm inside the outer gatehouse. The tour is open to all, not just BGA members, so please bring your friends! The cost will be £5.50 per person, which will include tea and homemade cake after- wards. Prior booking and pay- ment preferred. Please contact: Pam Fraser 31, Lucks Lane. Quick Makes for Kids Daisy caterpillar Pick a daisy with a long stem and thread daisy heads on to it
