14 Buckden Roundabout August 2022 Village News Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal Coffee Morning and Stalls Friday 2nd September 10am – 11:30am. at Buckden Methodist Church Leaflets, knitting patterns and examples of knitted and sew items. Examples of completed shoeboxes, ways to help with the shoe- box appeal will all be there. Donations made will help towards the shoebox appeal either with transportation of the boxes or to buy items for the boxes. There will be a bring and buy stall, cake stall and card stall. Please come along and find out if you are able to help in any way, thank you. Carol Swepstone 810053 Operation Christmas Child Shoe Box Appeal 2022 Buckden Community will be taking part in the above appeal and shoe boxes will be collected in November. Operation Christmas Child is a worthwhile charity making a difference at Christmas, by giving shoe boxes containing small gifts to children in poor coun- tries. Gift filled shoeboxes demonstrate God ’ s love in a tangible way and for many children, are their first gift ever. PLEASE NOTE SWEETS AND TOOTHPASTE CANNOT BE PUT INTO SHOEBOXES THIS YEAR DUE TO INCREASING CUSTOMS REGULA- TIONS. Gift suggestions: Toiletries: Toothbrush, hairbrush, comb, hair clips, bar of soap, flannel, etc. No Bottles or liquid items please, thank you. Educational Supplies: Felt pens, pens, pencils, pencil sharpener, eraser, colouring book, notepad, picture or puzzle book, chalk, pencil case, stickers, solar calculators, etc. Toys: Cuddly toy with CE LABEL please, doll, toy truck, skipping rope, yo - yo, ball, small puzzle, etc. Other items: Hat, scarf, gloves, sunglasses, hair accessories, wind up torch, jewellery set. Are you able to knit a puppet, hat, scarf, gloves, soft toy for a Christmas shoebox please? Patterns are available. Or perhaps make a bag, pencil case or puppet using your sewing skills. Of course, you may like to do your own shoebox, and this would be very welcome, as well. Donations of money always welcome for transportation as it costs £5 to transport each box. . If you would like more information, contact Carol Swepstone 810053. Buckden Friends Looking forward to next year 2023 we are planning 2 holi- days. Firstly to The Isle of Wight on Monday 15th May 2023 for 5 days, 4 nights. Cost around £425 for a single and £385 per person for a double or twin. Sea view £44 per room extra or sea view with balcony £64 per room extra if avail- able. This includes coach and ferry from Buckden Scout Hut, meals on route, half board at the Royal Pier hotel, trips out and the drivers ’ tip. We need a £50 deposit (non re- turnable), your room requirements and your contact details with your booking. The hotel has a lift but there may be some stairs between floors and rooms. Second holiday: Warners at Gunton Hall on the Norfolk coast. 30th October 2023 for 5 days, 4 nights. We need to book this straight away to get single rooms (only 10 avail- able) at a sensible price. A single will be around £330 includes coach and half board and Warner's entertain- ment. Standard Double/twin rooms £265 per person or premier double/twin rooms £295 per person. We need a non returnable deposit of £20 per person to secure this holiday ASAP. By 3rd August at the latest with your room requirements. Pat & Brian King 32 Mayfield Buckden PE195SZ patking@writeme.com 01480811020 07981 727603 THE CIO OF JAMES SOUTH AND WILLIAM BURBERRY VACANCIES AT THE SOUTH ’ S ALMSHOUSES South ’ s Almshouses and Burberry Homes in Church Street, Buckden consist of fifteen self - contained flats for singles or couples, over 60 years of age, who live in Buckden or who have a close active family relationship with residents of Buckden, and have limited means. The Almshouse flats are unfurnished dwellings. The aim is to provide convenient and comfortable accommodation in a setting that allows residents to come and go as they please. The Almshouse is the resident ’ s home for as long as s/he is able to live an independent life. Residents pay a modest weekly maintenance contribution and, in addition, may receive support from the statutory authorities. A Warden is employed to provide access to and liaison with these authorities. Having a Warden also means that support is provided regularly and can assist with summoning help if needed.
