We are very grateful. We are looking for more photos and paintings of any kind that we could use as a front cover. We especially need photos and paintings of autumn scenes, and of events in the village. We should be grateful for photos (or even paintings!) of the coro- nation celebrations in the village. Please note that photos should ideally be in portrait format and should be a minimum of 2400 x 1700 pixels. More is better! So by the time you read it, the August holidays will be well underway. Sadly we no longer have a Buckden Feast Day or Festival, but Buckfest goes from strength to strength every year, and this year ’ s event will have taken place on the Saturday before this edition is published. We hope to have some photos from the event for you to enjoy in next month ’ s edition. It seems strange to be talking about Christmas in the middle of the summer holidays, but I want to let you know about an art competition which we are running this year to create cov- er artwork for our December edition. We want a creative and exciting Christmas cover this year, so we are offering substan- tial cash (or voucher) prizes to the winners of four separate age group categories, with an even bigger prize for the overall winner who will also see their creation on the cover of the December edition. We ’ ll also be featuring the winners of all the age categories inside the magazine. Any art medium is suitable (including photography) provided it can be repro- duced as a cover. See page 12 for more details. (please also keep sending in photos and paintings for our covers for other months). What do you know about the most common of British birds, the wren? Well, for one thing, it ’ s a surprise that they are the most common, since they are not seen very often. Find out all about these fantastic but secretive little birds in the article on page 13. Our District Councillor, Martin Hassall, writes on page 5 about HDC ’ s plans to charge £57.50 per year for the first green bin to help balance the District Council ’ s books. The charge is op- posed by the Parish Council (page 4). Do express your views by writing to Martin and the Parish Council. Please remember to visit the Roundabout website. As well as every edition from 2013 onwards available to see, there are often articles there that we could not fit into the print edition, as well as information that arrives during the month.
