It was a delight to welcome Lisa Sheehan of the Ukraine Commu- nity Support Group, along with some Ukrainian friends, at our meeting on 2 nd July. Tetiana and Nataliya (respectively a lawyer and a financier in their home country) brought along Yulia, Timofii, Vlada and little Michelle as well as their Grandmother, Lubov, who had made us some most wonderful Medovk (honey) - layer - cakes to taste. The ladies showed us some beautifully folded napkins, tradi- tionally used in Ukraine to decorate the tables at Christmas, in many styles including water - lily, fish, butterfly, swan, bootee, heart and tree. Sadly, our individual efforts to try out one of the designs were a bit chaotic but we have been sent the de- signs by email to try again at home, as well as being given a link to the delicious cake recipe. The ladies left us with a lovely post - card thanking their English friends for their help and sup- port through the current troubled times. Our competition this month was to find the longest serving WI member in our midst. The winner was Audrey Gill who first joined a WI in1964. Well done Audrey! Our August meeting takes the form of a trip on the Ladybird Boat from Hartford Marina on the afternoon of 6 th August. Our next evening meeting will be on September 3 rd when we shall be sharing our memories of a favourite travel destination. Visitors are always very welcome to attend and for further in- formation please contact Emma Spencer - 07960018412 or Gill Baker - 079052114336
