Buckden Parish Council ’ s Thermal Imaging Camera Now that winter seems to have arrived, you might have no- ticed a few cold spots or draughts in your home. Sometimes it ’ s not easy to tell where they originate from so that you can do something about preventing the heat loss. Thermal imag- ing can vividly show where your home is leaking heat, reveal- ing problems with insulation, the origins of draughts, damp and more. Buckden Parish Council has a compact thermal imaging cam- era which is easy to use and FREE to borrow. You use it like an ordinary camera. For example, if you think you have a draught around a door just point it at the door and take a picture. If there ’ s a cold area it will show up blue or purple against the oranges and yellows of warmer areas. A temperature range at the edge of the image tells you how cold this area is relative to those warmer ones. Then it ’ s up to you to decide what to do about it – be it a curtain if draughts are coming in around the door or a good old fashioned “ snake ” type draught excluder. Both save you money by lowering your ener- gy bills, not to mention your carbon foot- print! We can provide a quick session on how to use the camera/ how to interpret your pictures or you could sign up for a free online session with Cambridge Carbon Footprint at cam- bridgecarbonfootprint.org/thermal - imaging. They also have a series of videos available on YouTube which show you how to use the camera https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=ErqhcSJhxNs and a recording of a training course https:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8IuQ0EBRCY which gives you plenty of information about how to go about doing your own survey and interpreting the images once you have them. If you would like to sign up to borrow the camera or would like some more information, please contact us clerk@buckdenpc.org.uk Buckden Christmas Lights switch - on Despite the stormy weather the High Street was packed for the switch - on of our Christmas lights. Many thanks to those stall - holders who came, to the Buckden Community Events Team and the staff of the Parish Council who ensured that it went well. Highway Maintenance Cambridgeshire County Council has asked if we wish to high- light any roads or footpaths where we think capital investment is need- ed. We have suggested that the footway running the length of Mill Road from Greenway to Carters Boatyard needs improving and wid- ening. Cemetery flowers This may be a little early, for which we apologise, but In early February our groundstaff will be removing Christmas Wreaths and dead flowers from the Cemetery . Flooding The flooding from the Great Ouse that was experienced in September was repeated at the end of November, although for a shorter time. A petition has been launched demanding that the Environment Agency reinstates Flood Prevention Measures. It already has well over 2,000 signatures and has been supported by the Parish Council. Details of it can be found at https://chng.it/XtG9RF5tLF Christmas and New Year As this is the last “ Roundabout ” for 2024 we would like wish everyone Season ’ s Greetings and to thank the huge number of volunteers in the village that make Buckden such a good place to live. We would also like to place on record our thanks to the de- voted and small team who bring you “ Roundabout ” every month. Book Exchange Two Parish Councillors have volunteered to be part of a rota to manage the Book Exchange in the old Telephone Box in the High Street.
