Buckden was much affected for over 3 years during con- struction as most of the gravel required was taken from what is now the Marina and hauled by truck through the village. Grafham Water site now covers 1,992 - acre and was designated a biological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in 1986. It has a circumference of approximately 10 miles, is 69 ft deep at maximum and the eighth largest reservoir in England by vol- ume and the third largest by area at 1,550 acres. Apart from being an important source of water for millions of people, Grafham Water is a notable water sports centre and is famous for trout fishing and bird watching. An area of 280 acres at the western end is a nature reserve managed by the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire. But we need not worry as our roof is all fixed and there are no leaks to spoil the interior of the building We very much appreciate the grant we received from the Covid - 19 Emergency Heritage at Risk Response Fund and the work of the contractors, Steve and Martin Strickland Did you know …? While humans are not the biggest, fastest, or strongest ani- mals around, we are the best at something: long distance running. Our long legs, upright posture, and ability to shed heat via sweat are all factors that make us good runners. In fact, early humans used to hunt their prey by chasing it for long periods of time until the animals literally died from ex- haustion, a technique known as persistence hunting. From osgpc.com
