21 Buckden Roundabout July 2022 Village News Pantomime!! This month sees the return of the Pantomime! Hurrah! Melodramatics is performing Rumpelstiltskin from Friday 8th July to Sunday 10th July. Melodramatics has put on pantomimes here for several years now and they have all been very well attended and really good fun to watch! To book tickets contact the Box Office on 07875 200237 or www.ticketsource.co.uk/melodramaticspanto Queen ’ s Jubilee Weekend We hope everyone had a fabulous Jubilee Weekend! A highlight for us was the Tea Party held in the Hall on the Saturday. It was very well attended, with over 80 guests, and the atmosphere was amazing. Thank you to everyone who came and to everyone who was involved in organising it! RightStart classes These strength and balance classes, run by HDC, returned to the Hall last month. These classes combine strength, bal- ance and coordination exercises to target and improve mo- bility, agility and flexibility. The classes take place in the main Hall every Thursday 11am – 12pm. You can pay as you go or book up to 7 days in advance on the One Leisure app or phone HDC on 01480 388111. Love to Move – feedback required please!! Love to Move is the first cognitive enhancement exercise programme of its kind in the UK, based on scientific re- search. It is a fun, age and dementia friendly seated move- ment programme to music. There are physical, emotional and cognitive benefits for those living with dementia and Parkinson ’ s and it is designed to get you moving more and having fun. I would love to hear from everyone who thinks that either they, or someone they know, could benefit from attending this kind of class as I would love to have one take place at the Hall. The Valley update The rains have finally come after almost five months of drought stretching back to New Year. Hopefully that will encourage the wildflowers and grasses to grow, although the plants along the water ’ s edge are rooting well. Our con- tractors have been back twice now to replant and hy- droseed to little effect, prompting their exasperated re- sponse, “ We can ’ t help that Buckden rivals the Kalahari De- sert! ” We now can ’ t plant in midsummer, but the contractors will be back in September to replant. They are disappointed that the banks look unattractive with the coir mats. We will also plan to plant the zig - zag path in the Autumn but will need to raise funding for that work. Volunteers welcome! Richard Salmon continues to do a stellar job managing the bramble growth and seedlings, which is a constant task. Thank you, Richard! Some of the banks along the North - east edge lake are still very wet, so please do take care and stay off the silt. The contractors are considering the best course of action. We are bitterly disappointed to report that vandals have succeeded in lifting the bolts and cracking the cement footings on the benches on the northeast side of the Valley. Conference Rooms for hire We have three conference rooms that are great for corpo- rate bookings, plus the main Hall for larger meetings/ training sessions. We have reduced hire rates for residents of Buckden/Stirtloe/Diddington so if you would rather walk to your next meeting than get stuck in traffic, please email me! We can also offer refreshments/buffet lunch so we are a one - stop - shop for your meeting needs!
