5 Buckden Roundabout July 2023 From your District Councillor From your District Councillor Huntingdonshire District Council Launches Recycling Poster Competition Huntingdonshire District Council is calling all young artists to take part in a recycling poster competition that could see the winner(s) have their artwork printed and installed onto one of our collection vehicles. The competition opens on Monday 5 June and closes on Mon- day 10 July. There are two age categories for the competition: category A, ages 3 - 6 years inclusive, and category B, ages 7 - 11 years inclusive. Use bold and bright pens and pencils and A4 landscape paper and email your artwork to wasteminimisa- tion@huntingdonshire.gov.uk. The winner(s) will also be invited to visit HDC ’ s depot and be one of the first to see their designs on the side of our collection trucks. From January to April, the content of over 3 800 blue recycla- ble bins was sent to landfill as their contents were not fully recyclable or contained black sacks. This number equates to roughly 33,000 kg. We are estimating that this emitted be- tween 23,1 - 56,1 tonnes of CO2. 1 tonne of CO2 is equivalent to the production of almost 14,000 chicken fillets, or even heating a 25m2 apartment for one year. 50 tonnes of CO2 are the equivalent of driving for over 188 000 miles in a Compact MPV (Fiat 500L type of car) which is like driving around the world 7.5 times. This can be reduced simply by recycling properly. You can view the terms and conditions of the competition on at: https://www.huntingdonshire.gov.uk/competition Check if you are recycling properly here: https:// huntingdonshire.gov.uk/bins - waste/waste - minimisation/ East West Rail: Route Update Announcement The preferred route announcement for East - West rail has now been announced. The headline is that the route is now planned to head through Tempsford, not South St Neots, which will mean Huntingdonshire does not get a station as part of the proposed scheme. Following consultation, the conclusion of the review, is that Tempsford has greater potential for development that would support significant economic growth than a station at St Neots. This was largely linked to consolidated land ownership and the opportunity to reuse a decommissioned RAF base. HDC will continue to lobby hard for a wider benefits package including links to skills and employment for local people etc and ensure heavy community engagement on the proposal. East West Rail is a nationally significant railway project which aims to deliver much - needed transport connections for com- munities between Oxford and Cambridge by: • Upgrading an existing section of railway between Oxford and Bicester • Bringing back a section of railway between Bicester and Bletchley • Refurbishing existing railway between Bletchley and Bed- ford • Building brand new railway infrastructure be- tween Bedford and Cambridge For more information: https://eastwestrail.co.uk/ routeupdate Huntingdonshire District Council launches Electric Vehicle Charge Points Survey Huntingdonshire District Council is inviting residents and visi- tors to have their say in a public survey, which launched today, 5 June, to gain insight into the user requirements, concerns, and expectations of Electric Vehicle (EV) Charge Points within the district. EV charging is a subject at the forefront of council agendas across the UK as we recognise the environmental impact of vehicles. The survey will guide us to what methods of support we can offer, how we can promote the use of EV, and how the infra- structure of our council ’ s car parks can be enhanced. Residents are encouraged to complete the survey before mid- night on Sunday 9 July at https://tinyurl.com/hdcevc.
