21 Buckden Roundabout June 2022 Village News Queen ’ s Jubilee Weekend Activities – kicking off at the Playing Field The Village Hall is working closely with the Parish Council, the Vine and the Towers to create a fun - filled weekend for all village residents and their families. There is lots going on during the weekend in the Village, from activities in the High Street, at the Towers and on the playing field. More details will be posted on our Facebook page as events are finalised. • From 5pm on the Thursday, bring a blanket and have a picnic on the playing field ready for the lighting of the Jubilee Beacon at 9:45pm. We will have food vans, music and inflatables and the Village Club will be open for liquid refreshment! Come and try the new climbing walls and zip wire. • The Valley will be open as always with people there to discuss the rejuvenation project and future plans, as well as gathering feedback from residents. Archaeological Display 30 th April – 3 rd May by Buckden Lo- cal History Society This was a great success and thank you to everyone who came down so see the display. The posters are now a per- manent fixture on the walls of the Millard Suite and one in the foyer. Many thanks to Buckden Local History Society and Barry Jobling for arranging these. They are a lovely ad- dition to the Hall and a nice reminder that our village has been a hub of activity for many, many years! The Valley The exceptionally dry spring has not been helpful to the 3,000 plants and bults planted last autumn. A few of the snowdrops, fritillary and bluebells struggled to make a show earlier in the Spring so hopefully a wetter Autumn this year will lead to a better show next Spring. The grasses planted at the water ’ s edge are doing nicely. The Valley was hy- droseeded with wildflower mix recently – turning the entire Valley bright aquamarine - coloured! Again, we need rain to encourage the seedlings to bloom. One of the local farmers said there has been only 4mm of rain recently! The silt along the banks is still drying out so please stay off it for now. RightStart classes These chair - based exercise classes, run by HDC, are being planned to return to the Hall from 9 th June. The Village Hall Trustees have agreed to support this worthy initiative in the short - term to help the less mobile stay active. By the time this goes to print the details will have been confirmed. For more information, please email admin@buckdenvillagehall.co.uk or call 811101. Sweaty Mamas Welcome to Sweaty Mamas which started in the Lincoln Room last month.
