6 Buckden Roundabout March 2021 Buckden Neighbourhood Watch HOW TO STOP NUISANCE TELEPHONE CALLS 1. Report a nuisance call. if you are receiving nuisance calls or unwanted texts from a company or a number. 2. Register with telephone preference service ( TPS ) if you are receiving unsolicited telephone calls. 3. Talk to you telephone company if you are receiving harassing or unsolicited telephone calls. 4. Don ’ t consent to be contacted if you are registered with the telephone preference service, third parties are not allowed to call you. Unsolicited telephone calls can be a scam. INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY Fraudsters are still preying on the fear and confusion that the pandemic brings and we now have investment firm scams. The Financial Conduct Authority ( FCA ) is advising anyone considering an investment opportunity to first visit the FCA register https;//register.fca.org.uk to ensure the firm is au- thorised. Check the warning list of firms to be avoided (which is updat- ed daily ) double - check the specific details of the firm very carefully, the differences between the FCA authorised firm services and a clone can be very subtle. Always use the telephone number or website address listed on the FCA register to research and make contact with the firm, not the details provided in firms ’ literature which could be a very sophisticated convincing fake. LOOKING AFTER YOUR HOME A lot of burglaries can be prevented. Most are committed by opportunist thieves, and in two burglaries out of ten the thief does not have to force their way in because a door or window has been left open. Burglars like easy opportunities. They don ’ t like locked win- dows because breaking glass attracts attention. Also install security deadlocks on doors.
