However, we expect there to be an event at the Towers on Sunday the 7 th , which will include a market and children ’ s activities. There will also be a Seniors Tea Party on Monday 8 th at the Village Hall. Further details to follow. We are still keen to understand any other plans to celebrate the Coronation. Flooding We have received a small grant from the County Council to purchase equipment for use in the event of flooding. A num- ber of items have been ordered. Details of access and storage will be published once they arrive. We are still keen to set up a network of Flood Wardens. These individuals would help us to identify issues and solutions and provide a point of communication to residents. It would be particularly helpful if you have had experience of flooding or live in a location prone to flooding, but this is not essential. If you are interested, please contact the Clerk. Annual Parish Meeting This will be held on 23 rd May at the Village Hall. The agenda will be published nearer the time. Please join us, everyone is welcome. Hedge Cutting Now is a good time to tidy up before hedges start to grow again but please think about the effects on birds and other fauna when planning your work. It makes sense not to disturb wild birds when they are nesting. The main bird breeding sea- son is recognised as being between March 1 st and July 31 st , so it is best not to cut/trim hedges/shrubs/bushes etc., between these dates. If you do need to do some work within this peri- od, it is recommended you check the hedge for any signs of nest building first. For most of us whose hedges consti- tute the boundary of our properties, there is no “ law ” about when you can or can ’ t cut your hedge. Howev- er, the Wildlife and Countryside Act (1981) states that: “ it is an offence to intentionally take, damage or destroy the nest of any wild bird while it is in use or being built, or to intention- ally kill, injure or take chicks or adults, or intentionally take or destroy any eggs ”. This means that if you, or your neighbour, know that there is an active nest in the hedge and still go ahead and cut it, damaging or destroying the nest and its con- tents in the process, you have broken the law. If you would like to find out more about this topic, the RSPB website https://www.rspb.org.uk/ and Natural England https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/natural - england both provide advice about avoiding damage to bird populations through the inappropriate management of hedgerows.
