Buckden Neighbourhood Watch Coronavirus related scams Self - isolating older and vulnerable residents are at risk of be- ing exploited by strangers and cold callers pretending to be helpful in order to scam them. Fraudsters are playing on the fear created by COVID - 19 and the need for the elderly and vulnerable to reduce social con- tact. We have already seen coronavirus related scams of older peo- ple by asking them for cash upfront in exchange for running errands. Another scam is to impersonate council officers or health officials offering mandatory coronavirus testing in or- der to gain access to homes. More elaborate scams include gaining access to savings or stealing a person ’ s identity. Not only those who are self - isolating are at risk of falling victim to these fraudsters. During this coronavirus outbreak there is support for keeping the elderly and those with underlying health conditions safe, including schemes within the village to collect food and medi- cation for those in isolation. Buckden Parish Council, St Mary ’ s and Friends In Deed are working together to co - ordinate a team of volunteers to sup- port those affected by coronavirus in Buckden. They can help with shopping for essentials, collecting prescriptions and phoning for a chat.
