Looking into the year I wrote “ Life has always been about adjustments and preparing for new experiences and adventures. ” I doubt that there were many of us that visualised the kind of new experiences we would face in 2020 as an unseen enemy by the name of corona descended in our midst. For all of us it has been a steep learning curve as we have adjusted to this new life. We have concerns and fears, but what about our hopes and opportunities? We have opportunities of expressing our neighbourliness, even if we need to shout from 2 metres apart. We have an opportunity to support those in need, and how friendly some have been standing in a queue waiting to enter the supermar- ket. But when our fears become the greatest may we each discover God cares even at such a time as this. A friend sent a video of the dawn chorus and I was reminded of this verse from the bible “ Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? ” (Matthew 6 verse 26) No matter how tough things maybe we do not walk through these experiences alone, God is one not exercising “ Social Distancing ” Andrew was a Greek Cypriot friend I knew in 1974. It was the year of the military coup and Turkish invasions. In the space of a month his brother was killed in Limassol, his parents were lost behind the Turkish lines and he escaped from Famagusta with just the clothes he was wearing. At a time when many would have given up hope he said “ I know that despite every- thing the one I trusted as my Saviour has never left me and walks beside me every day ” If you have trusted Jesus as Sav- iour and Lord of your life you also can have the assurance of his presence through these uncertain times. Please remember that though the buildings are closed the church is open with the people. The churches are continuing to show a presence in different ways. Our own church is bringing in an online service at Facebook and YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/ UCxdghslFLULGCblekWCQ4pg Blessings to all of you, Jon Magee - Perry Baptists Buckden bites Did you know …? The Green was once a pond with a wall on the road side. Adja- cent were a Pound, Stocks and a Cage where less law - abiding citizens were placed ready for transit to the local jail. The pond was filled in by a local farmer in around 1894 due to the dilapidated state it had fallen into. The trees on the Green were planted on the occasion of the coronation of King Edward VII in 1902. Did you know …? Around 150 years ago, a large tithe barn stood in the Co- neygarths. The floor space was half an acre and threshing was held here using flails. A local farmer bought a threshing ma- chine and the workers resented it so much they set fire to it. From Buckden C.E.
