15 Buckden Roundabout May 2022 Village News The Anglo Saxons are coming to Buckden Library! As part of the Local History Society exhibition in the Village Hall about Anglo Saxon finds at Lucks Lane, your library is offering some additional events: Children ’ s craft and make - Join us on Saturday 30 April be- tween 10 and 12.30 (just as the exhibition opens in the Village Hall) for an Anglo - Saxon craft session. We will have a range of Anglo - Saxon themed crafts for children of all ages including basic weaving, making a helmet, Rune writing and pot making. No need to book – donations welcome. Lego Special - Saturday 7 May sees the arrival at Buckden li- brary of the specially commissioned Lego models of the Long Hall and other working buildings found by archaeologists at Lucks Lane. See if you can create your own ceremonial build- ing, brewery or weaving warehouse with our large collection of Lego – from 10am until 1pm. No need to book – donations welcome. Meet the Finds – on Wednesday 4 May at 2pm, join us for this small group event providing a closer look at some of the inter- esting finds unearthed at Lucks Lane, explained and brought to life by Barry Jobling from the Local History Society. This event is for adults only, and must be pre - booked - spaces are limited so please book early either by calling in at Buckden library, phoning our call centre on 0345 045 5225, or emailing StNeots.Referral@cambridgeshire.gov.uk . Engage in the Afternoon at the Monday Club On Monday 9 May we are joining forces with the village Mon- day Club to present this month ’ s Engage event – ‘ Making the Most of Your Golden Years ’. We will be joined by friendly faces from Age UK, Love to Move seated exercise classes, Friends in Deed and the Community Café, the Library at Home service, and our local scams preven- tion officer. After a short introductory talk, there will be time for a one to one chat, along with tea and coffee. This is a free event, but pre - booking is required for those who do not normally attend the Monday Club. In addition we are still running our Lego Club every other Sat- urday ( 7 and 21 May ). Under 5s Duplo and games (Tuesday mornings 10 - 1) and Rhymetime (Tuesday afternoons from 2.15) is back after its Easter break on Tuesday 26 April . Knit Lit continues to meet at the library every other Friday from 7pm. Next meeting dates are 6 and 20 May – if you like knitting and reading – just turn up! Age UK will be with us again in May for their free drop in ses- sions offering advice and support for the over 65s and their families. Keep an eye on the library windows for dates and time. No appointment needed, just drop in for help and guid- ance on how to continue to live independently. FREE ENTRY Join us for an Exhibition revealing the story of Anglo - Saxon Buckden which was uncovered in 2019 on the Bloor Homes site. The remains of an important Anglo - Saxon estate including the largest early Anglian Hall yet found is here and the largest Great Hall so far discovered in Britain is also on the site, Addi- tionally, there were many other structures including homes, craft working areas, barns, stockades and a macabre find at the bottom of a well! A large Bronze Age cemetery was also exca- vated. Do come along to view the explanatory posters and see some of the finds uncovered by Oxford Archaeology East and several Lego models of how the buildings may have looked. Illustrated talks may be given daily. OPEN: Saturday 30 th April (Noon - 4pm), Sunday 1 st May (10am - 4pm), Bank Holiday Monday 2 nd May (10am - 4pm) and Tuesday 3 rd May 2022 (10am - 4pm).
