Queen ’ s Jubilee Weekend Activities – kicking off at the Playing Field with Brufts and the Beacon Lighting The Village Hall is working closely with the Parish Council, the Vine and the Towers to create a fun - filled weekend for all village residents and their families. On the Thursday (2 nd June), a village dog show, Brufts, is being organised on the playing field from approximately 10am – 4pm. More information will follow from the organ- isers but start grooming your pooches! In the evening, the Platinum Jubilee weekend will kick off with the lighting of the Beacon in co - ordination with all the others across the UK. The Beacon will be lit at 9:45pm but festivities will open from 6pm with children ’ s inflatables, food vans, music and family picnics. The Vil- lage Club will be open for drinks and refreshments. There will also be talks and tours about the envi- ronmental work under- taken in the Valley and the ongoing plans. Please come with friends and family to kick off the holiday weekend. On the Saturday afternoon, a tea party is being held for our older residents. More details to follow. There are also plans for some other events on the playing field on the Sat- urday and Sunday so keep an eye out for the final plan which will be published nearer the time. The Valley The recent warm weather has brought out a large amount of wildlife in the newly refurbished Valley. Several people reported seeing many frogs gathering for the mating sea- son. More recently, a cormorant has taken up residence on the water. The whole Valley was recently hydroseeded with wildflowers which should bloom in the next six weeks. Please try to stay off the seeded areas to give the delicate seeds a chance to get established. We are raising funds to carry on the great work. Please be careful around the edges of the water as the new banks are still drying out and are not ready to be walked on. On Bank Holiday Monday, we will be organising a Valley clear up, in time for the Platinum Jubilee weekend. Please join us on Monday 2 nd May from 1pm – 4pm to help keep the Valley in a good state. Bookings and Hire Rates We have a kid ’ s birthday party, a BJFC presentation on the playing field on 22 nd May and two corporate training book- ings alongside all our regular hirers this month. Remember that Buckden residents receive very favourable rates for the main Hall and three meeting rooms. Due to the sharp in- crease in utility rates, national insurance contributions and general expenditure, we have been forced to raise our hire charges. However, we still offer very reasonable rates for a venue that is consistently rated 4.5/5 stars by our custom- ers and includes free Wi - Fi. Please contact us to discuss your needs for exercise/hobby or business bookings, private celebrations, funeral/memorial services, christening parties. NEW - Zip Wire & Climbing Walls By the time this article is published the new zip wire and climbing walls will have been installed and in use! Many thanks to Buckden Parish Council for funding these. Enjoy! Cycle racks BPC will be installing two new bicycle racks in the village. One of these will be situated just outside the office window at the Village Hall. Falls Prevention Clinic Everyone Health used to run Falls Prevention Clinics at the Hall. Unfortunately, the company who run these clinics were not receiving enough referrals from the local surgery to keep the clinic going. However, I have received many calls from residents wanting to have this facility back. If these clinics can be of use for you, please can you speak to the surgery or contact https://healthyyou.org.uk/sign - up/ , call 0333 005 0093 or email eh.healthyyou@nhs.net Jo Harvey, Hall Manager Email: admin@buckdenvillagehall.co.uk Tel: 01480 811101 Please call or email to arrange Hall viewings Office hours: 9am – 2pm Burberry Road, Buckden, Cambridgeshire, PE19 5UY Tel: 01480 811101 www. buckdenvillagehall.co.uk email: admin@buckdenvillagehall.co.uk
