THE OUTER GATEHOUSE The Outer Gatehouse dates from the 15 th century and is part of the collection of the Buckden Towers group of buildings designated as a listed scheduled monument grade 1. The Outer Gatehouse is the principle pedestrian entrance into Buckden Towers from the High Street. It is consequent- ly an important part of the historic character of the village of Buckden. The structure suffers from some cracking to its brickwork, and almost total deterioration of its roof structure. Restora- tion is essential and urgent, and The Friends of Buckden Towers are proud to be supporting this important pro- gramme, being managed by the owners of Buckden Towers. “ Historic England ” has awarded a grant towards the repairs to the roof and masonry, and tender documentation has been prepared by conservation architects appointed by the Owners. Costs are anticipated to be high. FoBT has agreed to assist with the balance of the funding through a grant to the Owners in support of the project. Repair works are ex- pected to commence early next year. Why not get involved? Why not join this important local charity and contribute to the maintenance and preservation of our beautiful historic monument? Membership costs only £6.00 per year for a single individual, or £10.00 for a family. (Children under 18 years are free with family membership). Life subscriptions are also availa- ble.
