This year ’ s Poppy Appeal, like everything else, is affected by Covid 19 restrictions so this year there will be no door to door collections. There will be collecting “ tins ” and trays of poppies in participating shops, pubs etc. There will be some of us unable to get to shops etc. so please, if you know some- one who can ’ t get out you may want to get a poppy for them. If you can ’ t get a poppy please contact: Tim or Ce Walker (Buckden Poppy Appeal Organisers) at 01480 811844 BUCKDEN BRANCH - ROYAL BRITISH LEGION Remembrance Sunday this year falls on the 8 th Novem- ber; and that is about the only thing that will be “ normal ”. Firstly, you will have seen Tim Walker ’ s announcement in the October Roundabout confirming that, regrettably, there will be no house to house collection this year. I hope that things will have improved sufficiently to allow us to reinstate this next year. If you have not yet bought your poppy, please buy it from one of the shops or other places holding boxes in the village; while it all ends in the same pocket, it would be nice to send in as good a col- lection as possible from the village. On Remembrance Sunday, Jes will be holding a short outdoor service at 10.45 am at the War Memorial; there will be no service in church. The service will be held on the church side of the memorial to allow for proper so- cial distancing within the graveyard and to avoid causing traffic problems. There will be plenty of space, so please show up and, for those of you who have them, wear your medals. If the weather is really wet, the service will be held in St Mary's but attendance will be limited to the safe distancing capacity, which is currently around 45. Sadly there will be no refreshments at the Methodist Hall this year. The uniformed organisations are not really able to meet at the moment, so there will be no parade. Having had some discussion, I am hopeful that some members will attend in uniform, but with their families. I expect the Legion standard to be present and we will also have a trumpeter to play “ last post ” and “ reveille ”. The roll of honour and dedication will be read as usual. Please come and support Jes and his team, who are currently doing wonders at St. Mary ’ s under very difficult circum- stances. Armistice Day this year is Wednesday 11 th November. We are intending to hold the normal short service, and this also will be held in St Mary's churchyard at 10.50 am. Peter Mount, Chairman.
