10 Buckden Roundabout November 2021 Church News Weekly Prayer Roster Each week during the year the Churches, in their prayers, remember the residents of particular streets in the village, those who work in the parish and village organisations. The call for Christians to live up to their baptismal calling ought to be a constant reminder that not only are we called to be saints, but we are saints as St Paul says. The saints who have gone before us are examples for us. We are being prepared to share the life they have and they are interceding for us. It is not easy for us to be saints but it is not impossible. All Souls is when we remember all those who have gone before us especially our family members. We honour their memory and entrust them to God ’ s loving care. It is a celebration of trust – a firm belief that God wills everyone to be saved. Remembrance Sunday is when we remember those who gave their lives for us in the wars so that we might have peace. Many of them were so young and left their families bereft of a future. We also remember those civilians who died in the wars through no fault of their own. The Americans who live in our communities also celebrate Thanksgiving in November. We can also give thanks for being part of our communities, for being alive and for the gifts God has given us. It may be a cold and wet month but at the end of the month we celebrate the beginning of Advent the time we have to prepare for the coming of Jesus at Christmas. It is a good time for us to make sure the old, sick and lonely people in our area and not forgotten by keeping a caring eye on them. May Christ and his Spirit reign in your hearts. Fr Jim Kennedy BUCKDEN BRANCH - ROYAL BRITISH LEGION Last year we were not able to do our usual door to door collec- tion for the Poppy Appeal. This year, we shall be out again in force. Indeed, some of you will probably have already had a knock on your door by the time you read this. The Legion, along with many other charities, took a hit last year, so this year please give as generously as you can. Even if our collec- tors miss you, there will still be collection boxes in shops and other places in the village. Remembrance Sunday this year falls on the 14 th November; after all the changes, some at very short notice last year, we hope to be back to something pretty close to normal. There will be the usual service at St. Mary ’ s Parish Church followed by the ceremony at the War Memorial and I hope to see as many of you there as possible. Members of the congregation, other than children, are still asked to mask while in church and that will apply on Remembrance Sunday. As always, it would be very nice to have more of our British Legion members on parade. We would also welcome any serv- ing or ex members of the armed forces (regular or reserve) to parade with us even if you are not members and, yes, I will try to recruit you! If you are able to parade, it would be very help- ful if you can let me know by Friday 12 th November so that I can make sure that enough pews are reserved. As you will have worked out, Armistice Day this year is Thurs- day 11 th November. There will be the usual short ceremony at the War Memorial starting at about 10.45 a.m. so do come along if you can. Peter Mount. Chairman.
