16 Buckden Roundabout October 2020 Village News Re - opening After being closed for over 5 months, the Hall opened its doors again in September for a handful of hirers keen to return whilst ensuring all the government guidelines are adhered to. The Hall is only open to those who have booked and is not open to the general public until further notice. The office will remain closed so please contact the Hall by email preferably or phone if you do not have email. The contact details are at the end of this article. Many thanks to the organisations who are returning to the Hall. These are challenging times and their support is most appreciated. The Trust needs you! The Village Hall and the recreation ground have a central position in village life. The trustees contribute a great deal to the village in managing this well - used facility we are lucky enough to have. The role of Trustee is not demanding nor does it take a great deal of time. It does not require any special skills. The Hall is undertaking several large projects, including ren- ovating the pavilion, building a new storage facility and en- hancing the Valley which is silting up. If you are interested in getting involved or contributing project management skills or special wildlife knowledge, please get in touch to discuss our plans and a possible role. The Chair and Treasur- er roles will be available shortly too so anyone with a finan- cial background would be most welcome! If you would like to make a major contribution to the village community please contact me (details below). AGM BVHT will be holding its AGM at 7pm on Tuesday 6th Octo- ber via Zoom and residents are very welcome to attend. It ’ s quite easy and is ready in about 40 minutes. We love it with roast lamb and any leftovers are great reheated for lunch with a sprinkle of grated cheddar. Ingredients • 1 tbsp olive oil • 1 medium - size red cabbage, quartered, cored and shredded • 1 finger - size piece fresh root ginger, finely chopped • 2 onions, sliced • 1 tsp ground allspice • 1 tbsp mustard seed • 100g golden caster sugar • 150ml red wine vinegar Method Heat oil in a large saucepan, add cabbage, ginger, onions, allspice and mustard seeds, then cook for 5 mins until just starting to wilt. Scatter over the sugar and pour in the vinegar. Cover pan, gently cook for 10 mins, then remove lid and turn up the heat to medium. Simmer the liquid in the cabbage for about 20 mins, stirring occasionally, then stir continuously for the last few mins until all the liquid has evaporated and becomes sticky on the bottom of the pan. Tip cabbage into a large bowl and serve.
