October 2021

19 Buckden Roundabout October 2021 Village News Bookings Update During October we have a local private party, Jivenites, a two - day training event and the welcome return of Zumba on Fridays (9:30am – 10:30am) alongside our regular hirers. It ’ s really lovely to welcome our hirers back! No Parking at the Hall Friday 29 th – Sunday 31 st October We have the Jivenites Crystal Blues weekend from Friday 29 th October to Sunday 31 st October inclusive. This is always a very well - attended event and the car park will be full over the weekend. There will be no room for any cars relating to Saturday football on that weekend and once again we ask that any cars relating to any football matches park outside the school and walk the couple of minutes to the playing field. This will ensure that the cars directly related to the event can park in the car park and don ’ t have to park along Burberry Road/Vineyard Way, causing issues for local resi- dents. Valley update Work started on the Valley in mid - September. During the summer, we conducted a number of tests and surveys to help plan the work needed and meet regulatory require- ments. In September work began on ground clearance of the weeds and brambles. These will be replaced with native plants to increase the biodiversity of the Valley. In October the lake will be dredged and the silt used to rebuild the eroded banks, with excess silt removed from the site. In November, the paths will be lifted and replaced to improve access, a pedestrian bridge will be built over the stream to complete the footpath network and a boardwalk created. We have been working with the Environment Agency and the angling clubs to provide fishing amenities and working with the RSPB to create natural habitats. There will be a daily photo feed if people wish to follow the progress on the Valley. Many thanks to our farmers who have allowed us to use their fields for access. Buckden Village Hall Trust AGM This takes place on Tuesday 5 th October 2021 at 7:15pm in the main Hall. Everyone is welcome! Your Village Hall Trust needs you! We are looking for new Trustees to join the Village Hall Trust. There are lots of exciting projects in the pipeline so it ’ s an exciting time to join. The Village Hall and the recrea- tion ground have a central position in village life. The trus- tees contribute a great deal to the village in managing this well - used facility we are lucky enough to have. The role of Trustee is not demanding nor does it take a great deal of time. It does not require any special skills. The Hall is undertaking several large projects, including ren- ovating the pavilion, building a new storage facility and en- hancing the Valley which is silting up. If you are interested in getting involved or contributing project management skills or special wildlife knowledge, please get in touch to discuss our plans and a possible role. The sun normally shines for us but this year it was wet and miserable. Nevertheless, despite the rain, there was the same sense of community and joy on the playing field. There were some good bands on the two main stages and I was entertained by acts in the Shed on the far side. “ Expletives ” we ’ re as OTT as usual but thank goodness for that! They were magnificent. Thanks to all of the Buckfest team for their work in putting on the event.
