The other traffic problem that concerned both the Buckden and Offord Parish Councils was the railway level crossing. British Rail announced that it would increase traffic on the main north south rail link and that it intended to reduce the number of level crossings between London and York. It planned to close some and provide alternatives for the rest. A public exhibition was held in Offord village hall and a public consultation completed. The two parish councils agreed that a sensible solution would be for a new road to be built run- ning parallel to the railway with a bridge over the railway just to the north of Offord and joining the Offord to Godmanches- ter road. The council pressed both the County and District councils to support the plan. Both agreed and letters of sup- port were sent to the Secretary of State and our MP. Unfortunately the ambitious plans were not carried out and we still wait with queues on both sides of the level crossing increasing daily. Next month I shall return to my chronological survey of the council ’ s activities in the new millennium. - Terry Hayward (Parish Council continued from page 18) Brampton Wood Logs For Sale All hardwood, seasoned for at least 12 months £90 per cubic yard processed – ready to go on your fire £45 per cubic yard unprocessed – you will need a chain saw and a log splitter.
