Buckden Learning Group Update Buckden Learning Group (BLG) had 30 enrolments for its short Zoom - based course that started in May introducing Japanese History and Culture. Julian Sedgwick provided five fascinating lectures, each of which could be expanded into a course in its own right. In June members of the group gave talks on John Clare and also on the Leper Chapel in Cambridge. At the end of June we started a short course on the History of Scandinavia (up to the Reformation). This proved so interesting that we have extended it into August and September in order to progress towards the modern day. We continue to have stimulating discussions during the re- freshment breaks; the only difference being that Judith is no longer ‘ refreshments monitor ’. At the time of writing this article, in early August, we are preparing to return to ‘ live ’ classes in Buckden Towers at the end of September. The course about the American Civil War (previously held in 2004) was planned two years ago. This is clearly dependent on the national situation at that time and therefore subject to change. Although optimistic about changes to the current restrictions, we may not be able to sit ‘ unmasked ’ and ‘ shoulder to shoulder ’ again and hence anticipate having to restrict attendance numbers. We are reviewing this decision each term for the following term. The BLG experience is different but continues. Buckden and Little Paxton Surgeries Patients Association (BLPSPA) Our A.G.M. will take place on Wednes- day the 15th of September, at Little Paxton Village Hall. It will commence at 7:00 P.M. and conclude at 9:00 P.M. In the first half of the meeting we will focus on the team of volunteers that so successfully supported the Vaccination Hub, based at Little Paxton Surgery who will be invited to attend so that we can celebrate their achievements. It is important to recognise their individual and collective contri- butions, which enabled thousands of vaccinations to be de- livered. We hope Ursula and Jeff Hill, the two leaders of the Volunteer Team, will provide a presentation, in which they describe some their experiences and the challenges they encountered at the Vaccination Hub. In the second half of the meeting we will hold our A.G.M.. We will report on the work done by our Patients Association in the last year, elect officers and members to serve on our committee, and review the accounts. Refreshments will be provided on the evening. Finally, we wish to extend another invitation, to the patients who are cared for by our two surgeries in Buckden and Little Paxton, and who attended the Vaccination Hub over the course of the last few months. We hope to greet you at Little Paxton Village Hall on the 15th of September.
