Criminals will usually begin the conversation by texting ‘’ Hello Mum ‘’ or ‘’ Hello Dad ‘’ and will say that they are texting from a new mobile number as their phone was lost or damaged. They will then ask for money to purchase a new one or claim that they need money urgently to pay a bill. The criminal will provide bank details for the payment to be made to, with some coming back with further demands for money. HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF STOP, THINK.CALL. If a family member or friend makes an unu- sual request on WhatsApp, always call the person to confirm their identity. WARNING—INCREASE IN THEFTS FROM VEHICLES The police are urging motorists across the county to be vigilant and take precautions following a recent spate of thefts from vehicles. There is mix of offences some when vehicles are left unlocked and more drastically car or van windows are smashed. A range of items have been stolen from small amounts of loose change to more valuable items such as laptops, mobile phone, satnavs and power tools. Please remove items from inside your vehicle and lock in the boot. Double check your vehicle is locked before leaving BURGLARY ON THE INCREASE There has been an increase in burglaries. Criminals are enter- ing through open or unlocked windows and doors. Please keep a eye out for elderly neighbours and work with neighbours. Look out for neighbouring properties during summer holidays Buckden WI In August, 10 ladies met in our Presi- dent ’ s Garden on a sunny afternoon and informal chat took place and an opportunity to catch up on each other ’ s news. Everyone agreed it was an enjoyable afternoon. Thank you Ruth for providing the ice creams and the use of your garden and to Gerry for providing the scones, cream, and homemade jam. At the next Meeting, Tuesday 6th September 7:30pm in the Millard Suite at the village hall our talk will be “ History of salt from Cheshire to A14 ”. Everyone is warmly welcomed.
