12 Buckden Roundabout September 2022 Village News 1 st Southoe and Buckden Scout Group Swiss Trip 29 Jul - 7 Aug 2022 Rick Screaton, Group Scout Leader Finally, after nearly 4 years of preparation, including 2 years of postponement due to Covid - 19, I am pleased to report that 18 Scouts (11 - 14 years) and 11 Explorer Scouts (14 - 17 years) from 1st Southoe and Buckden Scout Group have successfully com- pleted a trip to Switzerland – Hooray! Part of a broader Hinchingbrooke District Scouting visit to the Kandersteg Interna- tional Scout Camp (KISC) in the Swiss Alps, this trip included 82 young people and 28 adult volunteers from our local area. The timing of the trip was particularly pertinent as it coincided with the Swiss National Day on 1 August, which is also the same day that in 1907 Baden - Powell began the first Scout camp on Brownsea Island. KISC is basically a permanent mini jamboree with approximately 2000 participants from Scouting all over the world. A key part of the experience, our young- sters found themselves inter- acting with fellow Scouts from countries such as Israel, France, Portugal and Poland. The theme for the week was ‘ high adventure ’ with a fun - filled programme of activities. Whilst testing for some, these activities brought new experiences and pushed boundaries. The activities included River Rafting, Canyoning, Climbing and even hiking up to and staying overnight in a Mountain Hut! All our Young Peo- ple and volunteers had a truly fantastic time. Unsurprisingly they were very tired children on the coach home! None of this would have been possible without the support of the Villages and the various fundraising activities we do throughout the year. Thank you all for your ongoing support.
