Genealogy - using social media for family history by Robert Parker
Robert is a Cambridgeshire based qualified and experienced Genealogist who delivers talks and research services for those interested in tracing their ancestors. He has been researching his own family history for over 25 years.
October 3rd
Haunted Buckden by Mark Egerton
After years of hands on research Mark published his first book last year. Part of his research was carried out in Buckden and this talk will be tailored to the village.

1918 - Victory and Fake News

One hundred years later, we examine the events of 1918, the Armistice and the aftermath.

Norman Cross - Napoleonic Prisoner of War Camp
by Paul Chamberlain
Paul Chamberlain is an author and historian of the Napoleonic era. He is an authority on prisoners of war in the period 1793-1815 and was heavily involved in the Eagle Memorial restoration at Norman Cross. Paul’s book was published earlier this year.

The Secret Life of Sweets
by David Learner
A romp through five millennia of luxury from Montezuma to the mega sour. Each of the audience may take away a sweet treat, and it's the social history of those sweets that form the backbone of the talk.

Huntingdonshire Manors and Records
by Philip Saunders
For centuries the Manor was a pivotal institution in English society, with
interests in property, trade and agriculture. Philip will be tailoring his talk to include information about Buckden.
March 6th
Buckden Palace - an unauthorised history
by Barry Jobling
An overview of the Palace’s history and buildings from Norman times to the 1950s, illustrated with many previously unseen images.
April 3rd
Roman Archaeology in Cambridgeshire
by Kate Hadley
The talk, accompanied by photographs, will tell a story about items that Roman and Iron Age people greatly treasured for their ability to persuade the gods to protect them.
May 1st

Founded in 1979, the Society aims to promote the study and knowledge of local history in its very widest sense, primarily by means of talks on all manner of topics in any way connected with the subject and will be pleased to promote individual or group research into local history projects.
