A grateful reader writes:
Just a brief note to thank you for putting a free copy of the
Buckden Book online. I found it whilst researching my family
history. I was especially pleased to read about Fanny Hornsey
because her husband, George, was the brother of my great-
great-great-grandmother Eliza Hornsey! Their father, John,
was born in Kimbolton, about 1798 and as the family lived in
Silver Street in 1841 and 1851 I also enjoyed the old pictures
of Silver Street.
Kind regards,
Bernard.
Feeding wildlife
T
hank you to everyone who has shown an interest
in "Wildlife on Your Doorstep" (see Buckden Roundabout,
September 2017) and for all your questions about wildlife.
Please keep them coming. Feeding birds and wildlife with-
out encouraging rats is understandably a concern, so stick to
the advice of putting food for birds on bird tables and
in feeders. In the case of hedgehogs and other mammals,
provide only a small amount of food you know they will take
in one sitting and remove any that may be left over. You'll
soon get to know how much food your birds and oth-
er wildlife will take, so you can provide accordingly and avoid
leftovers hanging around.
