Road Closures/ The Roundabout Numerous road closures have taken place during June and July particularly on the A1 and at the Roundabout. These works have been to repair the infrastructure underlying the Roundabout, resurface and improve white lines. They are not associated with any plans for the roundabout resulting from the Silver Street Development. We are still awaiting the outcome of a further review of the proposed solution by Na- tional Highways. For any future works, if anyone has any issues, the contact details for National Highway are Tel: 0300 123 5000 (available 24 hours a day) and the email is info@nationalhighways.co.uk . Flooding - Taylors Lane Culvert We have queried the lack of ‘ flow ’ in the Taylors Lane culvert with the Flood Authority. They have replied that due to a “ lip ” between the culvert under the High Street and the culvert that goes under St Hugh ’ s Road, there will always be water in the ditch in Taylors Lane. It requires a sufficient head of water from upstream to convey the water further downstream. In times of more significant rainfall, the water should be con- veyed downstream effectively. The recent work to remove a large quantity of silt from the system at St. Hugh ’ s Road will help this. Pavements, roads, and verge cutting You will have noticed that several pavements and some road surfaces have been repaired. This is good news, but there are still areas that need repair. The standard of work is not as good as we would have hoped, and we will continue to lobby the County Council. You can report any concerns on https:// highwaysreporting.cambridgeshire.gov. uk/ Cycle racks New Cycle racks have now been installed, in the High Street and at the Village Hall. These are all part of implementing the Parish Council ’ s Local Cycling and Walking Plan. Parking The County Council will shortly be undertaking a public con- sultation about the provision of double yellow lines at the Green, Hunts End, and by the School. The key purpose of the double yellows is to deter parking across the existing dropped kerbs (currently where there are white lines). When vehicles park across the dropped kerbs, it makes it impossible for those in mobility scooters or wheel- chairs to get across the road, and difficult for those pushing buggies etc. It will also make it easier for the bus to get round the sides of the triangle. Other locations are around junctions where, within the Highways Code rules, people shouldn't be parking, but do, and it leads to difficulties in crossing the road safely. The School would like to reinforce the existing zigzag lines with extra double yellows to really deter parking. The new double yellows are in short targeted stretches to allow as much parking as possible to remain near the shops, whilst making sure its also as easy and safe as pos- sible to get around by foot/wheelchair. Biodiversity As you know the Parish Council is keen to promote biodiversi- ty, sustainability and climate change mitigation. There is an article about how to save energy costs included in this edition of the Roundabout.
