Buckden Roundabout
February 2018
We’ve started 2018 still glowing from the run up to Christ-
mas: The children loved meeting Santa and seeing Thomas
the Tank Engine puffing up and down the track while waiting
for their train at the Nene Valley Railway; the Christmas
play, ‘Whoops-A-Daisy Angel’, was a great success bringing
tears of joy (and maybe a few of laughter) to the eyes of
many of the parents and grandparents in the audience; and
our Christmas party was lots of fun with games, dancing and
a few too many yummy treats. A special thanks to Pauline
Coker for giving up her time to get us boogieing! We also
enjoyed seeing our wreath in St Mary’s and sent 40 selection
boxes to Caring for Cambridgeshire’s Homeless - a huge
thank you to all who donated.
And while we are thanking people, we are extremely grate-
ful to Emily from The Flower Boutique, Brampton, for includ-
ing us in the Christmas Bauble fundraiser, and to all who
supported it. The generosity of Buckden villagers is a won-
derful and special thing. Thank you!
We were pleased to welcome 4 new starters in January and
the pre-school is busier than ever. Places are still available
but hours are limited so if you are interested in your child
joining please contact us to ensure they get a spot.
Looking forward to February, we are very excited about tak-
ing part in a ‘Sponsored Pancake Flip’ for Shrove Tuesday
with the children seeing how many times they can toss a
pancake in one minute – that won’t be at all messy! We will
also enjoy welcoming in the Year of the Dog when we cele-
brate Chinese New Year.

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF
ENGLAND SCHOOL
(Primary Academy Trust)
January 2018
We would like to wish residents of Buckden, Diddington and
Southoe a very Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year from
the staff and pupils at Buckden School.
We returned after the Christmas holidays ready for the new
term. It is a much quieter time at school following the hectic
build up to Christmas.
The major event of this month was when the Young Voices
choir attended the Young Voices concert at The Genting Arena
in Birmingham. This is a national event with schools from all
over the country attending, to perform together. All the music
was specially selected with a wide variety of songs to perform.
The choir has been learning and practising the songs since Sep-
tember. We left school at 9.00 am on the day of the concert.
When we arrived at the arena, we spent the day rehearsing the
songs with everyone else ready for the evening concert, which
many of our parents were able to come along to enjoy. We
arrived back at school very late. What an exciting, eventful and
tiring but memorable day.
An Appeal
. The school is investing in new exciting computer
based programmes to enhance the children’s learning experi-
ence. This means that we are using more computers and conse-
quently are stretched to accommodate all children who need
access to a computer at any one time. In this time of tight
school budgets it is increasingly challenging to keep ahead of
demand and we would therefore be grateful for any machines
that could be donated to the school for the children to use. If
any parent/family is replacing their desk top or laptop comput-
er over the holiday and would be willing to donate their old
machines to the school please contact Mrs Heather on her
email –
mheather@buckden.cambs.sch.uk
or telephone the
school office 01480 810241. Thank you for your help.
School & Pre-school
Buckden Academy Aspirations Day 2018
On Friday 9th February 2018 Buckden School is having an Aspirations Day for the children in Key Stage 2. During the day we
hope to introduce the children to a wide range of career opportunities, the aim being to widen their horizons and inform them
of the many different career paths that might interest them.
We are looking for volunteers to come into the school and share with the children what they do as a profession, maybe bring
along aspects of their work, such as tools, vehicles, uniforms etc and photos. We would like this to be a thoroughly interactive
day, with the children moving around the school talking to our visitors. We will also be having an introductory assembly, where
there will be an opportunity to showcase your profession if you would like to do so. If you are interested could you please
email Mrs Heather, Deputy Headteacher, at mheather@buckden.cambs.sch.uk, or telephone the school office on 01480
810241 giving the following details:
We believe this could be a really exciting day for our children. The hope is that they will learn that by working hard it will open
up a wider range of opportunities and choices for them in later life. Thank you for your continued support of our school and
enriching the lives of our children.
