School and pre-school
Although Christmas is a way behind us now, we need to offer
our belated but heartfelt thanks to Dave Reynolds for helping
with our Christmas Grotto at the Light Festival. Without him,
Santa wouldn’t have been there… ahem! Many thanks to him
for once again making sure Santa was there to greet the chil-
dren.
The New Year has brought in some changes at Preschool. We
have said goodbye to Sam Sinclair and the Preschool is now
under new management. We also have two new members of
staff, Miss Tasha and Miss Federica, who are both Level 3
qualified and bring several years of experience to our setting.
We hope they will be very happy with us and welcome them
into our Preschool community.
The New Year has brought new starters, too, and we hope
they and their families will enjoy their time with us. We still
have a few vacancies available for children this term and for
those wanting to start in the Spring Term—do contact us on
the number below if you would like to arrange a visit or if
you have any queries.
Meanwhile, the children are experimenting with ways to get
inside ice to free the trapped animals, learning science fun-
damentals and language such as hot, cold, melt, freeze and
dissolve as they do so (alongside bang, smash, hard and
soft!). They’ve also been writing those all-important thank
you letters to Santa, practising using a tripod grip and writing
their names. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, it will
also be time for talking about feelings and some Valentine’s-
inspired arts and crafts.
At present, the committee is gathering ideas to bring to their
next fund-raising meeting, so keep your eyes peeled for
more of our fundraising events once the details are finalised!
They are already planning to hold another Pamper Night in
spring, as the last two have proved very successful.

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF
ENGLAND SCHOOL
(Primary Academy Trust)
January 2020
Happy New Year to the residents of Buckden,
Diddington and Southoe from the staff and
pupils at Buckden School.
We have returned to school after a busy Christmas holidays to
a much quieter term than the last one! We’re all looking for-
ward to new challenges this term. Our new after school clubs
have started and we’re enjoying playing new games with the
equipment bought with the funds raised from Lizell’s walk
around Grafham in the Autumn Term. All of the pupils in Key
Stage 2 have visited Bletchley Park.
Bletchley Park is just out-
side Milton Keynes and was the principal centre of Allied code-
breaking during the Second World War. While at Bletchley
Park the children were able to explore the site and all the vari-
ous displays in the huts as well as take part in a variety of work-
shops. Everyone agreed that it is a very interesting place and
would recommend a visit.
Some of our Year 5 pupils had an exciting opportunity to visit
Eurovia, as part of our skills builder curriculum. During the day
the children learnt about businesses, their employees and how
they can use essential skills to apply problem solving skills to
analyse multiple solutions to simple problems. They also learnt
about the world of construction and the essential skills needed
to succeed. Another very interesting day.
Once again it has been brought to our attention by both local
residents and parents that irresponsible driving and parking
continues to be an issue. Parents and those who bring chil-
dren to school are continuing to park on the junction of School
Lane and Greenway as well as across residents driveways.
Please do not park on the corners or junction of the road as this
blocks access for the school bus and other vehicles.
According
to the Highway Code, motorists should not park “opposite or
within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised
parking space”. While the Highway Code isn't the law, it can be
used to support decisions made by the police or other officials
responsible for parking enforcement. When parking around
the perimeter of the school please have consideration for the
residents and do not park across their driveways blocking ac-
cess to properties.
We have also been made aware of drivers dropping off children
in the mornings and driving off at a fast speed putting pedestri-
ans walking in the area at risk. Please take care and do not
exceed the 20 mph speed limit that is in place around the
school.
We realise this is a contentious issue, and one the school is
trying to keep under control, but we need everyone to show
consideration for all residents in the village.
Thank you for your co-operation.
