June 2023

5 Buckden Roundabout June 2023 From your District Councillor From your District Councillor Flood Prevention The Parish Council Flood Group is trying to identify flooding ‘ hot spots ’ in the village. If you are aware of areas in the village that are prone to flooding from river/stream, ground or surface water please email the Parish Clerk – clerk@buckdenpc.org.uk with details. The group ’ s aim is to try and prevent flooding by alerting agencies to clean out drains, clear leaves and take oth- er preventative action. The Group now has access to pumps and other equipment that can be used if we experience flood events in the future. Along with the Parish Council I continue to meet regularly with LLFA to try resolve any flood related issues. Litter Picking I'd like to give a big thank you to Mark Gardiner for establishing a litter picking group aimed at cleaning up the litter in the vicin- ity of Brampton Hut. Mark already volunteers with our Buck- den litter pickers, who are doing an outstanding job of keeping our village free of litter. The litter problem around Brampton Hut is considerable, making it a significant challenge. Mark in- tends to repeat the initiative in May. If you would like to organise a Community Litter Pick, HDC can help you. For more details, please go to https:// www.huntingdonshire.gov.uk/bins - waste/community - litter - picks/ Allotments I understand that there may be some plots and or half plots coming free at Buckden Allotments off Silver Street. Please contact clerk@buckdenpc.org.uk if you are interested in grow- ing your own. Digging is easy at this time of year and there is still plenty of time to plant your veg. It's a great way of increas- ing your fitness, eating healthier and saving ££££s. Local Plan Issues Paper Consultation for Local Plan Launched Huntingdonshire District Council has launched the Issues Pa- pers consultation as part of the next stage of the development of the council ’ s new Local Plan. Responding to this consultation, which runs for 10 weeks until Wednesday 5 July, is an opportunity for people to shape the future of Huntingdonshire. The consultation highlights known issues in the district and asks for people ’ s opinions on topics including responding to the climate crisis, enhancing the natural environment, supporting places, meeting housing needs for all, promoting a prosperous economy, developing high quality sustainable communities with supporting infrastructure, and distributing new growth. There are three options to help people respond to the consul- tation: • The Issues Engagement Paper – an in depth look at the is- sues including detailed questions to encourage comprehen- sive responses • The Issues Summary Paper – a quick look at the headline issues, with one or two open questions to get your opinions • The Issues Easy Read Version – a simplified document with tick box questions People can complete the consultation online via the council ’ s planning portal: https://consult.huntingdonshire.gov.uk/kse/ The Local Plan is an important District Council document that sets the statutory planning framework for the district, shaping development many years into the future.
