BUCKDEN WI
At our March meeting we were extremely grateful to Jean Crane who travelled over from Norfolk at
very short notice to take the place of our ailing advertised speaker. Jean took us on a journey to the
small village of Much Hadham (near Bishops Stortford) and with the help of pictures and artefacts
she described its history from being a Roman pottery, through its links to Henry 7
th
and on to an evocative portrayal
of her own childhood there during the war. Finally she brought us to the life and work of its most famous inhabitant,
the sculptor Henry Moore and we learned of his local philanthropy and of the Henry Moore Foundation and gardens
(with tea-room now available, it sounds a good venue for an outing.) Next time (4
th
April) we look forward to ‘Tales
of the Fens and Marshes’ from Mr. Alan Lamb. The competition will be for a Fenland Photograph. As ever, visitors
and potential new members will be most welcome.
