Buckden Roundabout
August 2018
Buckden Village Festival
What a hot day it was and also a day of two halves as far as the fete was concerned; busy from 12.30 – 2.30pm and then for
some reason (possibly related to football) very quiet for the second half of the fete. Thank you to everyone who helped organ-
ise the three days of the Festival Weekend whether involved in the committee over the last few months, sorting out items in
the lead-up or setting up on the day. If it was not for so many people just getting on with tasks the event would not be possible
to organise. If you would like to help next year or have any good suggestions please let us know on
BuckdenVillageFestival@gmail.com
At the time of writing we are yet to total up what was raised but will let you know in the Autumn. The raffle is our main source
of income so thank you to all our raffle prize donors and well done to the winners as listed below:

Save our Oceans
The critical problem of plastic contamination in our oceans has
received a lot of attention recently, partly because of the expo-
sure that David Attenborough gave to the problem in Blue
Planet II. It is up to all of us to help reduce the production of plas-
tic, now that we know
how damaging it is to
marine life. But those
who rely on the
ocean for their liveli-
hood have been
aware of the problem
for years and years.
For example, the div-
ing organisation,
PADI, set up a charity
called Project AWARE
with a focus on clean-
ing up the ocean as
far back as 1989. And
in 2007, Modbury in South Devon became Britain’s first plastic
bag-free town. A healthy ocean is essential for us all.
