Buckden Roundabout

January 2020

School and pre-school

January always seems very quiet at Preschool after our hectic

Decembers! The children and their families thoroughly en-

joyed all the festive things we did in the last few weeks of

autumn term: Santa’s Grotto at the Buckden Light Festival

(which raised £243), the Christmas Concert, their trip on the

Nene Valley Santa Train, their Christmas party, a trip to the

primary school to watch their Christmas play, the church visit

to see all the beautiful Christmas wreaths and their movie,

pyjamas and popcorn day to finish off the term.

Huge thanks to parents and committee members who

helped to make these events so successful and enjoyable,

and to everyone who visited our Grotto or came along to our

Pamper Evening, which raised around £100. Also, a big thank

you to everyone who has continued to donate to our collec-

tion box at Nisa. At the time of writing, the box has just been

emptied and the contents haven’t yet been counted, but it

was very full, so many thanks to all those who have donated

their change.

Now, here we are in a New Year, with new children to wel-

come to Preschool along with their families. We hope our

new starters will be very happy at Preschool and that their

families will enjoying being part of our community. We are

hoping that Pauline Coker continues to recover from her in-

jury and can come back to us for her sessions, as children

and staff alike have really missed her Music and Movement

sessions.

Looking ahead, the children will be thinking about cold, win-

ter and snow—what clothes they need to keep them warm

in winter and what kind of animals live in cold, snowy places.

If snow arrives this term, we will of course be taking the chil-

dren outside to explore it for real!

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF

ENGLAND SCHOOL

(Primary Academy Trust)

December 2019

Where has the last year gone – it has flown by!

Once again our run-up to Christmas has been

very busy with a wide range of activities and events.

Our Reception children performed their play ‘Mary’s Knitting’

to the school, family and friends. This was their first perfor-

mance at Buckden Academy and was beautifully acted and

sung. The children in Years 1 and 2 also performed their Christ-

mas play ‘Camel, Lights, Action’ to the school community, fami-

ly and friends. Another very accomplished performance was

given by the children. Well done to all our budding actors and

actresses and to the staff who turned their hand to directing,

producing, costume making and prompters.

The children in Key Stage 2 gave a beautiful performance of

Christmas carols and songs at the Buckden Christmas Lights

Switch-On. Our annual Key Stage 2 Christmas Carol Concert

was held at St Mary’s Church and was attended by many par-

ents and friends of the school, who enjoyed mulled wine and

mince pies after the service. This is always a festive occasion

and this year was no exception.

Our PTA have also been very busy. At the Christmas Lights

Switch-On they organised the raffle which was very successful.

We hope the winners enjoyed their prize hampers. They also

organised a shop where the children could buy Christmas pre-

sents for their family and the end of term Christmas discos for

the children at school. Thank you to their hard work fundrais-

ing this term – they have more fundraising events planned for

the Spring Term.

During the month we had a Green Day, when the children came

to school wearing Green in exchange for a donation for our

school orchard. The school has sourced trees from the Sustain-

able Food Trust who are ensuring the trees we plant are native

to Cambridgeshire. Some parents have also made a larger do-

nation to have a named plaque put on their tree. We are look-

ing forward to watching our trees grow over the next few

years.

A reminder to prospective parents – 15

th

January 2020 is the

final date for applications for admission to primary school in

The school would like to thank all parent helpers and friends

who regularly come into school to work with the children. Your

help is very much welcomed and appreciated. May we take to

opportunity to wish the residents of Buckden a very Happy

Christmas and prosperous New Year.

The Buckden Village Festival

Youth Committee would like to

say a big thank you to everyone

who supported us in the past

half year at the Village Festival,

our pancake stall and through St

Mary’s church.

We are very happy to say that

we have raised £1,133 for the

WWF (World Wide Fund for Na-

ture) to protect endangered spe-

cies!
