Buckden Roundabout
July 2018
We
'
ve been making the best of the good weather with
outdoor games and trips to the park. The children
practised matching numeral and quantity, too, by
counting octopus suckers! This half term, our themes
are transport and people who help us. We
'
re hoping to
welcome a firefighter and police officer to talk about
their roles.
The school leavers have been honing the skills they
need for big school, such as writing their name and
changing for PE. As we begin their transition visits, we
would like to wish them and their families well. Some
are the last of their family to leave, so we
'
re saying
goodbye to families we
'
ve known for many years.
However, we
'
re saying hello too, welcoming new staff
members Nicola Collett (our SENCo) and Sarah Meech
(our bank staff member, currently covering long-term
leave).
As the school year ends, we would like to thank par-
ents, community members and our wonderful com-
mittee for all their support. We would also like to
thank Nisa for their kind donation of fruit and veg eve-
ry week and Pauline Coker for her marvellous music
and movement sessions.
On the fundraising front, we will have stalls at the vil-
lage festival and Buckfest, so please come along, have
fun and give us your support. Tombola donations (and
new committee members!) are very welcome.
We are hoping to run our very popular Stay
'
n Play ses-
sions again in August
–
look out for flyers around the
village and adverts in August
'
s Roundabout and on our
Facebook page for more details. There are also Pre-
school places still available for September, although
these are filling up.

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF
ENGLAND SCHOOL
(Primary Academy Trust)
June 2018
Our Reception and Year 1 children have visited the Raptor
Foundation in Woodhurst. During their visit the children
learnt about animal habitats, food chains and their life
cycle. They also had the opportunity to watch a flying
display. Thank you to the staff who organised and helped
on the visit, an exciting day was had by everyone.
The PTA ran a Father’s Day shop so the children could buy
their Dads and Grandads a present. They had a wide vari-
ety of gifts to choose from, all nicely wrapped ready to
give on Father’s Day. We hope you all enjoyed receiving
your gifts. The Father’s day shop was followed by after-
noon tea and cakes in the hall. Thank you to the PTA for
running the shop and the tea, and for the parents of our
Year 3/4 children for providing the cakes. They were deli-
cious.
One of the highlights of the month was the ‘Buckden
Showcase’. This involved all pupils at the school per-
forming in a show staged at Hinchingbrooke School PAC.
It gave the children an opportunity to showcase what
they had learnt in performing arts throughout the school
year, in a theatre setting. All the children have all been
busy rehearsing for weeks – each year group performed
their own songs and dances and the whole school per-
formed a medley of songs. The event was watched by
over 500 of our parents, relations and friends. We would
like to thank parents for providing costumes and props
and the staff for their hard work in writing, producing,
stage managing and directing the event. It really was a
day to remember.
We have had extra help at the beginning of the month
when Alex, James, Jasper and Mollie from
Hinchingbrooke School came to help on their work expe-
rience weeks. As they were all once pupils here it was
lovely to welcome them back. I’m sure they found a few
changes since they left the school a few years ago. Thank
you for your help it was much appreciated.
We are now looking forward to July and our end of term
activities. News of these will be in next month’s edition.
