Buckden Roundabout
June 2018
Summer visited us early in May and the children have
loved sunny trips to the park and eating lunch outside
under the shade of the balcony. By the time you read
this, summer may well have disappeared again, but at
least we made the best of it!
Our letter of the week themes saw a host of colourful
kites dangling on our washing line and a set of person-
alised lollies, designed to give the children practice at
writing their names.
We also have an ongoing Under the Sea theme and
the children have been practising their scissor skills
while making some marvellous jellyfish and seaside
pictures.
Rocks in the sandpit are helping the children learn to
talk about and compare weights, while adding water
to the dusty, sun-dried sand (no good for making
sandcastles!) got them talking about wetter, drier and
‘sticky’ – and produced better sandcastles! Soon,
friendly octopi will be helping the children practise
matching numeral and quantity.
Meanwhile, the preschool ‘leavers’ have started their
PE sessions and are learning to get changed into their
kit independently, which is a very important skill to
develop in readiness for school in September.
June brings a new term and a very sad goodbye to one
of our staff. Miss Sammi, our SENCo, is leaving after 8
years at Preschool. She will be greatly missed by the
staff, children and their families and we wish her and
her family all the very best for the future.

(Primary Academy Trust)
June 2017
This has been a very busy half term. The children in Years
6 and 2 have been sitting their SATS tests. They have
been very busy in class preparing for the tests and have
now completed them. Well done to everyone who sat
the tests - everyone has done their best.
Many of our children have taken part in both residential
and day visits. The Year 4 children went on a residential
visit to the Hilltop Centre at Sheringham in Norfolk. The
weather was lovely and sunny. The children took part in
a wide variety of activities throughout each day. These
included climbing the climbing wall, orienteering, the zip
wire (which Mrs Anderson bravely did) and taking part in
field games and team challenges. They also spent time
both at and in the local river, the River Glaven, studying
the local environment, and on the beach looking in rock-
pools. Tyler found a large lobster which he proudly held
before letting it swim away. Everyone came home exhila-
rated, but tired including the accompanying staff, Mrs
Heather, Mrs Anderson and Mrs Mayes.
Our Year 5 children have been very fortunate to have two
visits in one week. Mrs Masters entered a competition
and won. The prize was a visit to Oakham Castle for a
Harry Potter themed visit. During the day they took part
in a variety of activities based around the books of Harry
Potter. They also visited the Safety Zone based at St Ne-
ots Fire Station. During the visit the children were given
advice by local police officers and PCSOs, representatives
from the Fire Service, Environmental Health, Road Safety
Offices and St John’s Ambulance officers on personal
safety. It was an informative afternoon for both the chil-
dren and the teachers who accompanied them.
We have been very busy on our allotment. Mr Skelton
and Mrs Heather have put up our shed. The children
have dug and planted crops of potatoes, onions, carrots
and beetroot. We’re all looking forward to Mrs Bigg us-
ing the vegetables for our school dinners.
We are all looking forward to the last half term of the
school year (we can’t believe we’re nearly here) with lots
of activities and events to look forward to.
