Thought for the Month
Dear friends,
Spring and summer seem to finally be here. I hope like me that you have been able to enjoy this outburst of new life as nature
has suddenly sprung into action. And it has all happened so quickly; the Magnolia tree outside my study window seemed to go
from bud to bloom in about three days. Coincidentally (or not) here at St Mary’s we are enjoying an upsurge in the number of
baptisms – I’ll leave you to decide if there is any connection!
I think there is something fresh, vibrant and exciting in seeing new life emerge, whether in the fresh spring colours of flowers
and vegetation and young lambs or the greater, deeper potential of a growing human life.
By definition all of us reading this will have passed the ‘young lambs’ stage. But whatever stage we may be the potential for
new things to think about, pray about or do still exists in all of us. The challenge for many of us is whether we are open to en-
gaging with new possibilities and opportunities. These can be life changing; I heard of someone recently who created a new
career from his hobby, or less dramatic such as a new interest or seeking to make new friends. But whether (comparatively)
great or minor the potential for new and deeper fullness of life is there for most if not all of us.
Here in Buckden we are very privileged with lots of opportunities to explore new things, with the many clubs, societies and
events in the village. Indeed this edition of the Roundabout contains adverts and invitations to several of our summer events
including two events being run by Buckden and District Churches Together. Firstly our Holiday Club for 5-11’s which has proved
very popular over the past two years, with activities, crafts and games around a story from the Bible. And at the other end of
the spectrum an event we ran for the first time last year - Holidays at Home. This is running from 13-15
th
August and offers fun,
activities and perhaps something new for the more mature. It was very much enjoyed by those who came last year, so please
look out for the posters and fliers and think about coming. Jesus offers ‘life in all its fulness’ to those who follow him. Why not
think about new areas to explore this summer.
Best wishes,
Jes
