be looking forward to getting going

We are delighted to announce that the

Shopping and Packaging

This photo of rubbish found by one of

our villagers in the A1 north under-

pass was shown to Dave Lewis the

CEO of Tesco (owners of Buckden's

One Stop) as an example of how their

goods get strewn around the environ-

ment. The rubbish was returned to

One Stop and Tesco's response in-

cluded bringing this particular in-

stance of discarded rubbish to the

attention of the One Stop manager

asking "that they ensure that any rubbish located around the

store is removed and disposed of correctly".

This is something we can all play our part in. Our handymen do

a great job and we already have the village volunteer litter-

picking initiative but there is much more we can do. Have our

dog walkers ever thought of taking a litter bag with them as

well as poop bags and how often do we prompt youngsters to

pick up their discarded litter?

When we go shopping it will be good if we look around to see

how the retail industry is taking their environmental policies

seriously. For instance, do they have litter-bins and recycling

facilities outside their stores and in their car parks and do they

have incentive and promotional schemes to encourage their

customers to take responsibility for the environment?

There is a huge amount each and every one of us can do both

practically ourselves and by raising concerns with those in a

position to make a difference.

International Women’s Day

International Women's Day (8 March) is a global day cele-

brating the social, economic, cultural and political achieve-

ments of women. The day also marks a call to action for accel-

erating women's equality.

International Women's Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a

century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by

over a million people.

The International Women's Day 2020 campaign theme is

#EachforEqual because an equal world is an enabled world.

Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and

actions – all day, every day. We can actively choose to chal-

lenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve

situations and celebrate women's achievements. Collectively,

each one of us can help create a gender equal world.
