Buckden Roundabout
October 2019
School and pre-school
Another school year is underway and our new starters are all
settling in well. The children have been telling us all about
their favourite foods, toys and stories, helping us and their
classmates get to know them better. They’ve also been
thinking about what they look like and attempting self-
portraits using paint, collage paints playdough and much
more!
Another theme for this term is getting to know their area and
community, so the children will be out and about exploring
their surroundings and talking to the people who make our
village tick, such as local shop owners.
There’s always a lot to do in this term and soon they’ll be
thinking about the seasons and enjoying autumn crafts, too,
including Halloween projects.
We also have some great fundraising events coming up. Look
out for news about out
Gin And Rum Night
, which we will
advertise on our own Facebook page and the Buckden Resi-
dent page as soon as the date and time are confirmed.
There’s also our much loved annual Halloween Party coming
up, where children can enjoy Halloween crafts, face-painting,
a Ghoul-off, a mummy competition and more. Keep your
diary free and grab your tickets now!

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF
ENGLAND SCHOOL
(Primary Academy Trust)
September 2019
Well, here we are again after our summer holidays. We have
all returned to school refreshed and ready to start the new
school year. Our new Reception children are settling into the
school routines and look as if they’ve been here for much long-
er than they actually have! We have also welcomed new fami-
lies to the area and the children have all joined higher up in the
school and settled into Buckden life with ease.
We had our Harvest Service at St Marys Church. It is the first
service of the school year at church, and the first visit to church
for a school assembly by our Reception children. The children
brought gifts of tinned food which has been donated to the
Godmanchester Community Foodbank. Thank you to our par-
ents for their generous donations.
A group of Year 6 children have had a residential visit to Nor-
mandy, France. Whilst in France they visited the World War 1
battlefields, the towns of Rouen and Dieppe and visited a choc-
olate factory, a cheese and farm and a cider factory. Everyone
had a fun, interesting, but tiring visit.
One of our willing volunteers helped to keep our school allot-
ment under control over the summer holidays. Mrs Rosemary
Surridge did the school a great favour keeping the unwanted
weeds at bay. She also entered some of our pumpkins, all of
various sizes, into the village show, and we are very proud to
announce that we managed a first and a third. Thank you so
much to Mrs Surridge for all her hard work – it is very much
appreciated.
As we start the beginning of the school year can we take the
opportunity to remind our parents and visitors about parking
around the school area. We all need to be aware of the needs
of the local residents as well as the traffic and parking regula-
tions around the school. The area in front of the school marked
with yellow lines is not a ‘dropping off’ area. As well as being
very dangerous due to passing cars and the pedestrian walk-
ways, this part of the road needs to be kept clear at all times as
it is the access area for emergency vehicles. We also ask par-
ents not to park on the grass verge by the school gates or use
the school car park. The parking spaces in front of the school
are for use by the staff and visitors. Please do not use them for
dropping off and picking up your children. Extra parking spaces
are available at the Millennium Centre, which is a short walk
from the school. Thank you for adhering to these guidelines.
There have been put in place for the safety of everyone who
comes to the school at the beginning and end of the day.
