As our committee’s November AGM approaches,
can we again plea for more members? You don’t
need any special knowledge to join our commit-
tee and any time you can spare, however small,
will be very welcome. Some long-serving mem-
bers understandably wish to resign, but as a
charity-run preschool, without enough committee
members or key post holders we would be forced
to close.
October has been a busy month. The children have
enjoyed learning about shapes and colours, and go-
ing on autumnal walks to look for conkers and hear
the leaves crunch beneath their feet. Soon they will
be involved in activities to mark Succot and Thanks-
giving. On the fundraising front, we have been raising
funds for others this month with our Macmillan coffee
morning and competition, which raised a fantastic
£91.20. A big thank you to the committee members
who organised this event so brilliantly, and to those
who supported it!
As I write, we’re gearing up for our ever-popular Hal-
loween Party on 28
th
October. Tickets are available
from Preschool or Nisa (thank you, Barry!). Looking
forward, our next fundraiser will be our stall at the
Christmas Lights event on 4th December 2-5 p.m.
Some sessions are now full and others have very
limited spaces, so to arrange a visit or book a place
for your child, please contact our Manager, Michelle
Nelson, as soon as possible on 07941 671999.
You can also contact our Chairman, Alan Scott, on
07745274921. For more information, please vis-

VILLAGE NEWS
BUCKDEN CHURCH OF
ENGLAND SCHOOL
(Primary Academy Trust)
October 2016
It doesn’t seem possible that we are now approaching
October half term. It has been a busy time at school
with a variety of events taking place.
We had our Harvest Service at St Marys Church. It is
the first service of the school year at
church, and the first visit to church for a school assem-
bly by our Reception children. The children brought gifts
of tinned food which has been donated to the Godman-
chester Community Foodbank. Thank you to our par-
ents for their generous donations.
A small group of Year 6 children have visited Normandy,
France on a residential visit. Whilst in France they visit-
ed the World War 1 battlefields, the towns of Rouen and
Dieppe and visited a chocolate factory, a cheese and
farm and a cider factory. They were very lucky with the
weather - long spells of sunshine were experienced.
Everyone had a fun, interesting, but tiring visit.
Many of you may have seen our Year 6 children riding
their bicycles around the village. They were working
towards their Bikeabillity award. Well done – everyone
passed.
The PTA hosted a MacMillan Tea and Cake afternoon.
Our Year 6 pupils and parents provided a wonderful se-
lection of cakes. We had a brilliant turn out and raised
£280.49 for the MacMillan Cancer charity.
We have had comments and complaints about the park-
ing around school at the beginning and end of the
school day. The guidelines which have been given to
parents, are being put in The Roundabout so residents
of Buckden are aware if they are bringing or picking up
children from school:
The car park in front of the school is for teachers
and official visitors to the school only.
Please do not park on the staff car park for drop-
ping off or collecting your children, also can you
avoid parking across the car park blocking ac-
cess.
Please do not park on the yellow lines around the
school, or in the bus bay, or use these areas to
drop or pick up your child/children. These areas
are reserved for disabled parking and the school
bus.
Please do not park across the driveways of the
local residents in School Lane, Greenway or Mill
Road.
Please do not park on, or near to, corners of
roads. This can block visibility for road traffic and
pedestrians.
Please do not park in the car park by the shops.
Thank you to everyone for following the guidelines. It
will make the area around the school a much safer
place.
Chairperson needed -
from mid November 2016
Buckden Preschool Playgroup need an enthusiastic
volunteer for the role of Chairperson of this thriving
preschool, rated as 'Good' in its last OFSTED report.
The role requires overseeing the running of the Pre-
school (including liaising with the Manager & staff),
chairing committee meetings, and acting as named
contact for the governing body when dealing with
OFSTED. Although a background in education or
finance would be helpful, it's not essential.
If you are looking to volunteer for a rewarding and
community-based role, then this is for you! If you
would like to know more, feel free to contact the cur-
rent Chairperson, Mr Alan Scott, on 07745 274921
for a no-obligation chat.
