Buckden Village Festival
Well at least the rain seemed to have read the timetable for
the fete as it arrived at the beginning and stayed until the end.
It was good to see so many people out in the rain enjoying the
stalls and attractions. Thank you to everyone who was involved
in preparing, setting up, running a stall, performing or clearing
up. It is only through so much help that an event like this is
possible.
Special mention must be made of StageWorks who continued
dancing regardless of the weather in costumes that provided
very little protection. Thanks to Chris, Cedrick and Des who ran
the arena, Debbie and Rosey who organised the stalls, Karen
and Priscilla who ran the raffle, Corrine who kept the Facebook
page up to date and Pat who organised the Quiz on Friday
night – you missed a treat if you did not come. Well done to
those that won prizes in the photo competition, on the Youth
Stall or in the raffle, these will be distributed shortly. Raffle
winners are listed in the table.

tions please let us know on

A Buckden garden this month
Wasps!
Wasps can be a nuisance, as any sum-
mer picknicker can testify!
Wasps are more likely to bother you in
late summer. This is when the queen
wasp has finished raising her brood. She
stops rewarding the wasps with sugary
treats so they set out to forage for oth-
er sources. Wasps can even get a little
drunk on fermented fruit if they find
windfalls!
Wasps aren’t really mean stinging machines, as we sometimes
think. They are brilliant predators of garden pests and help ferti-
lize plants.
If wasps are bothering your picnic you can try a wasp trap to en-
courage them to keep their distance. You can find easy ones
online to make at home.
