Buckden Roundabout
August 2019
School and pre-school
The summer term is nearly over here at Preschool, with the
older children showing off their amazing show dance skills
and their successful runner beans! By the time you read this,
the hurly-burly of the last few weeks will be done: the leav-
ers will have had their graduation photos taken (and their
parents, and maybe even staff, will have shed a tear or two),
the Teddy Bears’ picnics will have been eaten, Sports Day
and Aqua Afternoon will have given the children plenty of
fun and exercise, and you will (hopefully) have flocked to our
stall at Buckfest and our Big Play Party to celebrate our 50
th
anniversary. If you did, thank you for your support! We hope
you had a great time.
However, all is not quiet at Preschool, as throughout the hol-
idays we have our Stay ‘n Play sessions running—do come
along! Full details of dates and times can be found in our
advert. It’s a great way for new September starters to get
used to their environment while having fun with their par-
ents and carers.
Finally, the thanks. A big thank you to everyone who organ-
ised and supported our Pamper Evening, and those who
came along to offer treatments and sell products. Everyone
had a wonderful time and we raised a fantastic £448. Also, a
massive thank you to Austin, Remy and Aiden, and their love-
ly mums, who have been fun-running to raise money for Pre-
school too. The final totals are yet to come in, but they’ve
raised hundreds of pounds for Preschool so far.
In the meantime, we wish everyone a wonderful summer.
See you back at Preschool or our fundraising events in Sep-
tember!

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF
ENGLAND SCHOOL
(Primary Academy Trust)
We have now reached the end of an-
other school year – how quickly they
pass. These last few weeks have been
very busy with exciting activities.
At the time of writing we are busy preparing for Sports Day.
Sports Day is split into two halves – Reception and Key Stage 1
have their races in the morning and their field events in the
afternoon, and Key Stage 2 have their field events in the morn-
ing and their races in the afternoon. We also plan for the tra-
ditional mums and dads races as well as the staff race. We
hope that parents join the children to have a picnic on the
school field. We are expecting our visitors to come along and
enjoy the days events.
During transition week the children met, and spent 4 days with
their teachers for next year, and we also welcomed our new
Reception children who experienced life in school including
having a school dinner. Their week ended with a teddy bears
picnic on the school field. The rest of the school had a good
week preparing for next year. During transition week our Year
6 children visited their new secondary schools to familiarise
themselves with their new routines.
Two year groups have had their school trips during the month.
Our Year 2 children visited the grounds at Burghley House to
learn about trees! They spent the first half of the day walking
through the grounds and the second half of the day visiting the
Gardens of Surprises, which is a water garden. Great fun was
had by all and in the water garden every one enjoyed the sur-
prise of water fountains. The children in Reception visited
Shepreth Wildlife Park where they were able to see a large vari-
ety of animals and learn about how they live and their natural
habitats.
During the last week of term we had many activities taking
place in school. The PTA arranged the end of term discos – lots
of dancing by everyone! The Year 5/6 children presented their
play ‘Plastic Pirates’ to their parents and friends. Well done to
the children, staff, parents and helpers who became directors,
script prompters, scenery designers and helped with costumes.
What acting superstars we have at Buckden School! The Year 6
children had their Year 6 Leavers Prom. Everyone dressed –
the girls looked lovely in their dresses, and the boys all looked
very ‘dapper’! The leavers’ celebration assembly was a very
fitting finale and an emotional time for everyone who is leaving
Buckden School. There were tears from both the children and
the parents. We would like to wish the Year 6 children, and all
our leavers, good luck in their new schools.
The Buckden School community would like to thank parents
and members of the community who have supported the
school during the past year. We wish you all a good summer
and look forward to seeing you in September at the start of the
next school year.
