BUCKDEN WI
In our November meeting we welcomed
Bob Scott who gave us a talk and
demonstration on glass blowing, ably
assisted by his wife, Janet. At first glance
his work station looked pretty fearsome
with a propane gas bottle, oxygen cylinder, Bunsen burner/
blow torch, carbon blocks (to rest the hot glass on) and varying
lengths, diameters and thicknesses of glass tubing.
Bob began by showing us a selection of items he had made,
from a complicated golf trolley to the simplest of thimbles. He
had made many items for dolls' houses which were minute but
very detailed – tiny beer bottles, crockery and tiny little jars
with gingham covers.
He then demonstrated how to make a mouse being careful to
align the eyes correctly to avoid a boss-eyed creature! Next
came an owl sitting on a log and both items were then donated
as raffle prizes.
Sadly, this was to be Bob's last talk so all the items he had
brought with him were for sale and our members managed to
do a lot of their Christmas shopping with Janet on hand to
carefully wrap all the purchases. A most enjoyable evening and
no-one got hurt!
Our next meeting is on Tuesday, December 3rd, at 7.30pm in
the Millard suite of the Village Hall. This is our AGM and we
will be enjoying a fish and chip supper. Members are asked to
bring their own drink and a glass. The competition is for "A
Christmas Bauble"
