Buckden Roundabout

December 2019

School and pre-school

At the time of writing (early November) we’re not quite

in the Christmas spirit yet at Preschool; the children are

still getting over the excitement of fireworks and all

things Halloween, and the staff and committee are still

in good spirits (pun intended!) from the success of the

Halloween Party, which raised £325. The committee

are busy organising the Christmas Shopping and Pam-

per Night on 22

nd

November and the children have

worked hard to create a lovely poppy display to mark

Remembrance Day. We hope you got the chance to see

it on display on our balcony.

However, we are well aware Christmas is coming and

we are delighted to be running the Christmas Grotto at

the Lights Festival – we hope to see you there! By the

time you read this, the children will be exploring winter

themes and making snowflakes. Their den will have

become an igloo and the sensory tray will be focused

on snow. They will also be looking forward to their Ne-

ne Valley Railway Santa trip on the 11

th

December, and

be involved in a variety of winter and Christmas crafts

and activities – as well as practising hard for their

Christmas Concert on the 16th. The term ends with a

Christmas Party on the 19

th

and snuggle-up-and-watch-

a-Christmas-film day on the 20

th

. PJs, popcorn and com-

fy cushions are involved!

As we come to the end of another busy Preschool year

– our 50

th

! – we would like to thank everyone who has

supported us this year and donated loose change to

our Nisa collection box. A big thank you to all those

who have joined our committee, and as ever, huge

thanks to Nisa who continue to supply our morning

snacks and welcome the children in for their weekly

shopping spree! Finally, a thank you and a get well soon

to Pauline Coker, who runs our music and movement

sessions but is temporarily unable to do so due to an

ankle injury.

It just remains for us to wish everyone a very

Merry Christmas

And Happy New Year!

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF

ENGLAND SCHOOL

(Primary Academy Trust)

November 2019

As we reach the end of the month we have

had some exciting events here at the school. Our Sports

Teacher, Miss Lizell completed a sponsored twelve hour

walk around Grafham Water. She started her walk at

6.00 am and continued until 6.00 pm. The objective was

to raise money to buy sports equipment to give the chil-

dren the opportunity to experience a variety of new

sports, outside the usual mainstream sports. The chil-

dren had a non-uniform day coming to school in their

sportswear to raise funds for the equipment, and some of

our Year 6’s joined Miss Lizell on her walk during the day.

After school a number of parents and students also joined

her as she finished her final lap of Grafham. Well done to

Lizell as she completed her 12 hour marathon. We do not

have the final total as yet, as donations are still coming in.

Thank you to everyone who has donated to the fund

We had our Remembrance Service at school on Remem-

brance Day. The service was led by the children in Year 5

and 6. The children in Year 6 who went to France on their

residential visit learned about the First World War and

visited the battlefields and trenches of the Somme

battles, while the children in school studied the war. This

has led to a greater understanding of what remembrance

means for them all. The children in Year 6 also attended

the service in the village.

The PTA arranged the Christmas raffle at the Buckden

Christmas Lights Switch-On on Sunday 1st December. The

school had a non-uniform day to collect items for luxury

food hampers. We hope the winners of the hampers en-

joy their Christmas goodies.

It has been brought to our attention that the school bus is

having difficulties accessing the school at the start and

end of the school day, due to cars parking on the junction

of School Lane and Greenway. Please do not park on the

corners or junction of the road as this is blocking access

for the school bus and other vehicles. According to the

Highway Code, motorists should not park “opposite or

within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an au-

thorised parking space”. While the Highway Code isn't

the law, it can be used to support decisions made by the

police or other officials responsible for parking enforce-

ment. We would appreciate your co-operation if you are

dropping off, or picking up a child from school.
