Thought for the Month
Dear Friends,
We are now well into 2020, a new year and a new decade. I
hope it has started well for you. I am sure that the last ten
years have seen many changes in all our lives. In February
2010 I was still training to be a priest and was unmarried. Ten
years on and I am very happy to be married to Jane and to be
here with you in Offord. No doubt all of us have similar
stories.
It is fair to say that the next decade is likely to see at least as
much change in our national, local and personal lives as have
the last ten years. Abba songs don’t often feature in these
notes, but in a wistful song entitled, appropriately, ‘Happy
New Year’, they reflect on this tension between the certainty
that life will be different in uncertainty as to what the future
will hold with the lines – ‘In another ten years time, who can
say what we'll find, what lies waiting down the line, in the end
of [twenty]-nine’.
The Christian message is one of hope. It recognises that life is
full of change, some good and some less so. It doesn’t duck
the hard stuff that happens to all of us. But the clear message
from the life and ministry of Jesus is that God will never fail us
or forsake us, He will be with us when life is rubbish; He in-
vites us to turn to him and receive comfort, support and
strength. And He is with us in the good times enjoying with us
the fullness of life He promises.
Elsewhere in this edition there is information about the many
activities for all ages happening this month in our local
churches. We would love to see you.
Best wishes,
Jes, Rev Jes Salt, Priest in Charge, Buckden and the Offords
