SCHOOL & PRE-SCHOOL NEWS
BUCKDEN PRE-SCHOOL PLAYGROUP
We have had a very eventful year and we have
been awarded a new prestigious accreditation
from the Pre-school Learning Alliance. Our
fundraising events have been great successes.
Father Christmas helped to raise over £1000 at
our Christmas Fayre, despite having to call out
the AA when his sleigh broke down!
However due to unusually low numbers of chil-
dren and rising costs this year, our bank bal-
ance is not looking healthy. We are in the proc-
ess of applying for a Sustainability Grant from
Cambridgeshire County Council to assist with
our cash flow.
The Playgroup is a great asset to our village
and we hope to ensure its success for many
years to come. We are always on the look out
for enthusiastic fundraisers; please contact us if
you are able to help.

December is our busy month in the build up to
Christmas. The month started with our Recep-
tion children performing their nativity play ‘Busy,
Busy Bethlehem’ to parents and friends. Every-
one performed with enthusiasm and the play
was enjoyed by all our visitors. Our Years 1 and
2 children performed their Christmas play
‘Christmas with the Aliens’ to parents and friends
towards the end of the term. Once again every-
one performed with enthusiasm and the perform-
ances were enjoyed by everyone who came
along. Well done to the pupils and staff for all
their hard work.
Our FOBS had their annual Christmas Fayre
which was well attended. Some of our children
performed a karate display and the usual mix of
stalls, refreshments and Santas grotto provided
for a fun packed afternoon. Thank you to the
FOBS committee for their hard work and yet an-
other very successful Christmas Fayre. Another
Christmas tradition was fulfilled when our Year 4
children visited Hardwick Dene to sing Christ-
mas carols to the residents. We also welcomed
the Over 60’s and our parent helpers to a Tea
Dance. Our Year 6 children have been learning
the art of ballroom dancing and were happy to
guide some of our visitors around the dance
floor. The afternoon was enjoyed by everyone
who came along. The final event on our Christ-
mas calendar was the annual Key Stage 2 Carol
Concert at St Marys Church. This is always very
well attended festive event and this year was no
exception.
We are now looking forward to our Christmas
holiday and preparing for the new term. We
would like thank the residents of Buckden for
their support during the past year and to wish
everyone a very peaceful and joyful Christmas
and a prosperous New Year.
